As I am not so patiently waiting for my starter kit to arrive, I am doing some research on refilling etc. I purchased several packs of prefilled carts with my kit, but am fairly certain I will be refilling them myself after I get comfortable with vaping. I want to be prepared with some juice before this is a necessity. So, my question is, how many refills from a 5ml bottle, and a 30ml bottle? Just want to make sure I have enough juice on hand initially so that I don't get stuck without and have to turn back to the analogs while I wait for a shipment. Waiting till I try the 4 different flavors I got my carts in before I decide on a juice flavor, but need to know just how much I should buy to start. thanks!!

It's not so much about how many refills you get because it varies with the model of PV you have and how you use it. It's more about how much you vape per day. Average consumption is +/- 3ml per day from the reports I've read here on ECF. This question comes up quite often. I know I'm right around average so I go through just under 90ml in a month usually. You may be different though. And drops/ml is usually considered to be 20 or so with water, but that depends on the viscosity of the fluid, the physical properties of the liquid, the aperture of the dropper, and temperature. In other words it can vary considerably.

A typical normal super-mini or mini cart holds 0.4 to 0.6ml
A typical cartomizer holds 1ml+, some larger ones may hold 1.5ml, and there are some larger than that, especially under development

but if any rebrander said a carto or a cart = a pack of cigarettes, that is not true. More like maybe 2-3 cigarettes = a filled cart before you need to top it off? And maybe 4-5 for a carto before you should add more? You don't want to run either of them dry (you could singe the stuffing and strain the atty whether it's external or in a carto)

I vape about 1.5ml per day, sometimes maybe 2. Some people, especially with cartos and larger attys (or more constant vaping) might vape 3-5ml+ per day.

cskent has given good advice. If I were you, as soon as you get your kit make a decision on the 5ml of juice and the carts and get some more e-liquid. Those carts will be gone in no time. Find a vendor that will offer up/has for sale 5-6 samples.
If the e-liquid is all pg and you purchased a 510, you can get upwards of 20-25 drops in a new unused cart. As you add percentages of vg, that number goes down. Also, as the filler becomes used it tends to not hold as much liquid and it tends to loose the ability to hold its shape.
I have a 510 tutorial that shows filling a cart and re-stuffing, very easy once you see it done.
Hope this helps! Good luck and remember to have fun and not get stressed.

It is a v4l vaporking which is coming to me tomorrow. I did order several different pack of carts to go with it so I could try some different flavors. Yes, I know it is the more expensive way to go, and just getting some 5ml juice woulda been better, but I felt that I should at least vape for a few days before I started getting into refilling. Now that I have read up on it, and seen how easy it is, I feel it won't be any big deal, so am now looking at juices. Hoping that I will love one of the flavors I ordered along with my kit, so that I can just order 30 ml right away. If not I will order some more sample 5mls. From what you ahve all said, I will probably order 2 30mls once I pick out my flavors. I am telling myself that I won't be the type that wants to make my own, or get heavily into mods or anything like that, but I do wonder...I tend to be a tad obsessive, so god only knows. heh

Thanks ECF'ers-glad I could help with the videos-time for a new one.
This is for the cartomizers I used last year around June and July. I have gone completely to using atomizers and dripping, but I do hope this helps.
As for the cartomizers if you use needle nose tweezers, a crochet needle, a corkscrew or small eyeglass screw driver-Pop the white plastic top off, take the inner clear plug out. Hold the cartomizer at a 45 degree angle and drip the e-liquid down the tube and let it slowly absorb into the filler. Rotate the atomizer as you go and when the top of the filler begins to look a little glossy stop.
I have read that cartomizer users will also put the cartomizer in between their hands after filling and will roll the cartomizer between their palms real fast to help the e-liquid absorb better and then put in a few more drops. Some will put it in a bag-threaded end at the bottom of bag and twirl the bag using centrifugal force to move the liquid down into the cartomizer. Be sure to put the plug on the bottom end-you could force e-liquid out the bottom if it was overfilled.

For the weights and measurements nerds—standard dropper: 20 drops/ml; medical dropper: 30 drops/ml
Newer cartos, like the ones from donttouchmybutt, can be refilled by dropping 20 drops into the silicone cap and gently pressing the carto into the cap, repeating with an additional 10 drops. It's by far one of the best and easiest refill methods I've seen, and they hold 1.5 ml. They also have some impressive new filler material (check out FieldOfVapor's Black Cherry review on YouTube for the carto dissection and DTMBlackcherry for the refill vid). I have yet to try this, btw, as my replacement juices are en route. Report upcoming.
