I don't drip and use carts from Bloog, Greensmoke, & V4L. What I have found with filling used carts is that the filler makes all the difference, as well as how clean the filler material is before refill.
Generally speaking I was a 1/2 pack a day smoker and find that I do Vape more often then I smoked due to the ability to Vape wherever and whenever I like.
The used carts from Bloog and Greensmoke have a paper filler while the V4L have a foam material that is easier to fill and will also take more liquid before reaching the point of flood. I can generally inject, using a syringe, about 1.0 ml into a used V4L cart. The Bloog and Green smoke used carts take only .75 ml and obviously don't last as long. I change carts the minute that I feel the vapor drops off and don't wait for the taste to change as I do not want to burn the filler.
I clean the V4L carts about every 5 refills by soaking in alcohol overnight and doing the spin method to get all the old liquid out. I rinse in warm water and set the cleaned carts aside to dry before blowing them out with a hair dryer. This has been a good method as there is no longer any odor, from the old liquid, when I finish. I just refill the Bloog and Greensmoke carts as I don't trust the filler to survive the same type of cleaning. I can usually get only 3 refills before discarding them due to weak performance and poor vapor output.
I refill my carts by mixing 10 ml at a time and target an 18 mg concentration. I have some juice at 28 mg and others at 18 mg and add my own VG, watered down by 20 % with reverse osmosis water, with either a 20 % or 30 % cut to achieve the 18 mg that I like.
I generally consume about 2-3 carts a day which is equivalent to 2-3 ml of juice, that further breaks down to 2.1 ml nic juice and .9 of VG.
The average cost of a 30 ml bottle of nic juice is $18.00 , here in Canada, and I get 500 ml bottles of glycerin for $5.00. The cost of distilled water is irrelevant as the concentration is so small.
The calculations and cost estimate for all this is as follows:
each 10 ml mix = 7ml @ $18/30 ml + 3ml @ $5/500 ml
= $4.20 + $.03
10 ml mix = $4.23
1 Cart = $.423 - based on a fill of 1 ml/cart
for a cost of between $.85 to $1.27 per day
Add the shipping cost of $7.95 / month ( 3 X 30 ml bottles ordered once a month)
for a total cost of $1.54 / day
I get from 200 - 225 puffs from each cart
so therefore 1 cart = 13.3 to 15 analogs , based on 15 puffs to consume an analog
( 3(13.3) + 3(15)) = 42.45 analogs / day or 1.698 (25 pack) / day
a pack of analogs in Canada cost on average $13 for a cost comparison of $22.07 / day
Even at my previous 1/2 pack a day of analogs my saving would be $4.96/day or 24% of my original costs.
Of course I have not included the cost of my 3 starter kits but given a battery should last at least 1000 recharges and I use a passthrough whenever possible I can reasonably expect to get at least 2 years out of my hardware. For the pragmatic this means approx. another $1.00 / day which works out to 40% of my analog costs.
Am I concerned over using 2 -3 carts / day? Emphatically NO, as I have been analog free for 3 months and I have never felt better. I breathe better and have the energy to start working out again on a regular basis.
Hope this helps anyone who is wondering if the cost is worth refilling carts or if vaping is less expensive than smoking analogs, regardless of health concerns.
cheers ! from Canada
