I use around 450-500ml per month. I diy, and it costs me around 10-15 bucks per 1000ml to make it myself (all depends on what flavors i make with each batch on total cost). So, on the high side, it costs me roughly 8 bucks a month on juice. On the low side it would be more around 4.50 a month.

I do menthol using crystals and buy in bulk. If I used any other flavors, I could see my cost going up. Also I only use VG, so not having to buy PG keeps my cost low too.
I need to look into the menthol thing. I wouldn't mind just adding a little 'hint' of menthol to my juice, just so there is something there other than the nic and VG.

Guessing it would be easiest to buy a premade menthol solution to see if this is something I want to explore further? Any suggestions?

Thanks

In a months time I go through about 300 mls of juice and like many others here I make my own. I only vape highly purified NETs (Naturally Extracted Tobaccos) and it took four years of hard work to learn how to make them. It costs around $8 to make a months worth and since I stockpiled liquid nic my costs are -locked in- for life. Self-sufficiency grants Peace of mind which is in fact priceless.

When I started vaping 4 years ago, at 30ml a week I was spending around $100 a month on juice. Didn't seem like much at the time compared to smoking. Now I DIY it's less than the price of one pack of cigs a month. That's a guess, I never actually did the arithmetic.

I was spending $30 a month on ejuice - more at the start to find flavours I like.

As a beginner you will probably be chainvaping to get you thru that initial withdrawal from ciggies.

It will get cheaper - after 5 months of vaping I've finally got into diying my own eliquid. There's a pretty decent initial cost in that for the flavourings, bases, nicotine, empty bottles and equipment. However once you have it - your ongoing costs are minimal.

That sounds about like me. When I was buying liquids 30ml a week, $20.
DIY that same 30ml costs about $1. Although I vape a little more. So probably $4-$6 a month.

Once I started DIY and those costs were offset by cigarettes I didn't smoke I stopped counting. I'm saving so much over smoking as long as the item is reasonable (not some collector mod/tank) it's reasonable to buy it.

I would do a premade to see if you like it. It might be just as cheap. I have a pg allergy, that’s why I went the diy route.

I want to get into diy but I'm afraid I might make liquid I don't like.

Make a few small test batches of recipes you think you'll like. Out of five tests, you'll probably find one or two that you really like. Make those in bulk.

Many vendors offer premixed concentrates for their popular flavors (Mt. Baker, for example) that you can build on. Bull City Flavors (and others) can sell you either recipe packs or premixed concentrates for most popular flavor profiles (tobacco, coffee, dessert, beverage, etc).

There's nothing to be afraid of, tons of money to save and a lot of fun to be had in DIY.

Isn't that another Cool Thing about doing DIY?

You can Try all kinds of Recipes, and when one turns out Horrible, you can just Toss it. And what are you out? Like 30 Cents or something?

A 246ml bottle of my primary ADV costs me $5.63 to make and lasts about a month (usually just a bit more than a month). The flavoring is $4 of that cost. My wife also vapes a bottle so both of us can vape for about $11.26/mo. The reality is, it is a bit more than that because I also make a few 30ml bottles each month of secondary flavors to give us a break from our ADV. All told it's more like $15/month.

Now I am about to start vaping for free. Our jobless, recently adult daughter has announced she is starting vaping (against all of our objections and warnings). She is insisting I make her juice for her but I told her I am not making it for free (to provide incentive for her to get a job). So I plan on charging her $5 per 30ml which is cheaper than she can get it anywhere else and yet offsets my cost...possibly completely depending on how much she uses.

Just FYI here is what I pay for each ingredient:
    Nicotine(100mg) 500ml $27.99 = $0.06/ml
    PG 1gal $19.99 = $0.005/ml
    VG 1gal $14.99 = $0.004/ml
    Wintergreen 500ml $25.00 = $0.05/ml
    Polar Blast 4oz $24.00 = $0.20/ml

Yeah it is great being able to try all sorts of flavors, but you are likely to be out more than $0.30 though. Chances are good that if you don't like what you made it is because you don't like at least one of the flavors concentrates you bought which probably cost at least $2. I have tossed a few flavor concentrates I just couldn't stand. That said, making small 10ml samples to test out is cheap and even if you throw away $10 worth of concentrates per month, it would still be cheaper than buying commercial juice and WAY cheaper than smoking.

When the wife and I both smoked, we were spending combined about $360/mo on cigarettes. Now with the DIY juice and DIY coils/wicks we can vape for less than $20/mo. So we are saving $340/mo. We could splurge trying new flavors and waste a whole lot and still not come anywhere close to smoking. Hell we could probably each get a new mod and tank every month and still come out ahead.

I've got about a liter of nicotine left in the freezer dated 2016, not sure how much I paid for the whole batch, and the PG to mix. VG I get from the pharmacy.

Once a year or so I get a few small bottles of flavoring to mix my Wakonda, and a bottle of Jimmy the Juice Man's Creme Brulee.

    So, monthly? A few bucks...

I've bought a Lot of Flavorings over the years. There were Very Few that I just couldn't stand.

Many didn't quite cut it as a Stand Alone. But worked Fine in combination with another(s) Flavor

Yeah... There were a Few that just couldn't be Saved. But I never really got upset Tossing a 2 or 3 dollar bottle of Flavoring. Especially when my Entire Monthly Vape Cost is like 5 Bucks. So if one Month it Shoots Up to 10 Bucks because I got some Monkey Azz tasting flavoring, eah, such is Life.

I started doing DIY this year. Bought a starter kit at heartlandvapes for $50 and I'm almost out of PG six months later. I'm spending another $50 now at nicotineriver, but this next order should last me a year and I'm spending a bunch on new flavors just to keep things interesting.

I estimate about 15ml a week or 60ml a month consumption. If 120ml of PG lasted me six months at a 50/50 mix (plus nicotine and flavor) that works out about right.

Including startup costs, my monthly e-juice expenditure is between $5-10. I've heard of people finding deals on pre-mixed for that price, but the stuff I make is delicious (even with just one or two flavors), I know exactly what goes into it, and I enjoy the process. I haven't made anything amazing yet, but I'm confident I will be able to soon!
