24mg is a decent starting spot - if its too strong you can dilute it with food grade PG or VG from the store, although it will taste weaker. Another idea is to buy one juice at 24mg and the exact same flavor at zero nic (most places do small bottles although TV who does great juice only does large ones) and then mix n match to get your exact nic level right.
Of course you may find its too weak even at 24mg, in which case Id just buy another juice at slightly higher nic. Little bottle if you can as you may not be on that high a level for long. Some people need the strong 36mg to help them over the craving hump the first week or so (although many do not).
It will be different for everyone so theres no 'one size fits all' amount.

President Lincoln was known for being tall (by 1800s standards) with really long legs.

Once, he was asked, "Mr. President, how long do you think a man's legs should be?" He answered, "Long enough to reach the floor."

So, in answer to your question, just enough nicotine to keep you satisfied. Best way to know, is get a few samples at varying strengths.

If you only smoked half a pack of lights per day, I would think you should start at around 18mg.
But it varies for everyone so it could be too much, or it could be not enough.

The best thing you can do is get a sample of 12mg and a sample of 24mg.
Then you can mix them together in various proportions until you find what is right for you.

it's a user preferance. i used to smoke marb light menthol (king size). started at 12mg, not really enough so i mixed at about 18mg, finally went up to around 22-24mg.

some heavy smokers like low mg, some light smokers like high.

Like CaptJay said, go strong because you can always mix it down.

Does the nicotine strength differ on a 2-piece and a 3-piece e-cig? I remember reading on one supplier's site that the lower nicotine level 2-piece carto's were equivalent to a higher nicotine level 3-piece.
That sound like BS to me.
I can't see any reasonable argument to justify that statement.

If anything, a 3-piece would be higher, but only if you drip.
Or if you are using a very good catridge modification.

I agree with DC - theres no logical reason (Id go so far as to say I think its impossible)for an atty and a carto to alter the strength of a lqiuid thats being put into it.
It might FEEL stronger - I have noticed I get more TH from juice in cartos than dripping on atty,(only TH though not nic hit) but thats probably to do with ohms/resistances and technical doo-dah that confuses me :) - Its the same nic strength though.

Everyone is different when it comes to mg levels. I would suggest that you lean on the higher side than the lower. Perhaps 24mg.

When I quit analogs, I tried 18mg thinking it was about the same as cigarettes. For me it wasn't. I needed to go to 32mg for the first 2 weeks to keep from climbing the walls.

Then I cut the mg back slowly. Now I'm at 18mg and will go to 12mg next week or so.

The first time I became aware of the existence of e-cigs was at a Smoking Everywhere mall kiosk, though I didn't buy there.

I seem to remember that the highest nicotine level offered by them as "high" was 18mg.

Same thing happened to me. I just bought the highest level that the web site I got my e-Cig from had. Heck I didn't even know there was "Liquid" juice out there and I could refill.

If I had known about the ECF BEFORE I got my first two e-Cigs I would have save a ton of money and a lot of time.
