Honestly I've never replaced a coil due to it wearing out or popping.

I recoil my rebuildables several times a week sometimes, I'll be browsing some vaping forums and see a cool idea and want to try it out, so I'll recoil even though the old coil was still perfectly fine.

It's actually kind of nice on my dripping attys it's really easy to remove the coil and wick completely intact and replace it if you want to. I have a few little containers full of probably 40 to 50 coil+wicks that are still perfectly good, and sometimes I'll go back to a configuration I had previously instead of actually making a new coil.

It's more difficult doing this with my genesis attys, as removing the wick and coil and replacing it at a later date is a more involved process, since moving the wire all over tens to increase the chance of hotspots or shorts appearing.

So usually my gennys have the same coil for at least a few weeks, by drippers get replaced at least weekly but not due to any problem with the coil.

I only use Igo Ls and only use micro coils. I rebuild only when the coil pops. I rewick with cotton on a daily basis and after I remove the old wick, I dry burn my coil before I put in a new wick. I have 5 Igos so I have I have a few spares to do test coils on without tearing apart my everyday builds.

Ok educate me. What's a micro coil? That just a subohm coil? I'm guessing you like those Igo-L's? Lol. I have one but not exactly my favorite.

This, my man, is a micro coil - like the name implies, micro in diameter 1/16" / 1.6mm / 16ga bore. It is built with many, tightly scrunched together wraps and produces similar and often much better results than, for lack of a better word "old school" coils of 1/2 the resistance. In other words, a 2 ohm micro will perform equal to or better than a 1 ohm old school. I run mine using sterile USP rolled cotton as a wicking medium. Kicks .... :)

That one was wrapped on an 18ga needle. I find that I prefer the 16ga though :)

An igo correct built is better then anyother dripper in my opinion. I see no reason to spend $100+ on another rba or rbd when I can buy a $12 igo-l, slap a micro coil with a rolled cotton wick in it and have an awesome vape. The rest of the money saved goes on DIY supplies. I am cheap.

Very nice.. When u do ur micro coils do u wrap the wire with a needle, then feed the wick in. Or wrap it with wick already?

I wrap mine on a 1/16" drill bit, squeeze it together with tweezers, hit it until it glows red with a torch and that locks the coils together. The I put the coil on the device and twist up some cotton and thread it through the coil, clip the ends leaving one end with just enough wick to hit the deck and the other is clipped next to the coil. Fires like a champ every time.

I do something similar to what got ^ does. I wrap em first using a 16 ga luer lock blunt tip needle. Leave it on the needle then install coil, then wick. I tried alot of different things as a mold before settling on the needle. I exclusively run 30ga Kanthal A1 wire.

Hey I got a question for you micro coil guys. Have you ever used silica instead of cotton? I ask because I'd like to try a micro coil but I'm not a fan of cotton, and silica seems like it would be nearly impossible to feed through the coil. In addition to that, I'm thinking with such a long coil, the silica wick wouldn't be able to keep juice supplied to the inner coils. The wick would be so skinny the outer coils would probably vaporize all the juice before it can make it's way to the inner coils.

Hopefully I'll hear that other people have been using silica with good results, I'd really like to try one of those micro guys.

Thanks!

I used strands of silica and 1.0mm ecowool. I was hesitant to use rolled cotton because it sounded....well....too simple. Cotton wicks way better then either silica or ecowool, ecowool being the worst yet most expensive. I now am a firm believer in cotton for both taste and wicking. Beisides having great taste and wicking ability, it is cheap and I can rewick daily. It takes me two weeks to go through a ball and I bought 200 balls.

on my igo rdas i like to constantly change my setup single dual coil ss mesh cotton etc but i do have adhd lol i make at least 3 new setups daily lol:vapor:

I have 5 of them so I use two of them for everyday use and the others are for test builds. I don't chase vapor since an analog really doesn't put out much smoke and I don't ever remember in over 20 years of smoking, trying to blow huge clouds of smoke so I find it silly to try it with vapor. With that said, my current setups churn out the vapor but it is the taste and nic hit that has me content. No need to mess with something that is working far better then I would have expected.
