Hey forum, I'm sure this has been covered a million times, but my eyes can't take it so would some of you pro's chime in and give me a baseline as to how often you squonk your carto's and any techniques or tricks that work well for you? I'm using a boge LR carto with RY4 on my mini presently. I draw on it as I squonk and stop the moment I hear a little gurgle. Is that the proper way? Sometimes after squonking, I turn the rig upside down to let the juice permeate the filler. Is this o.k. or a no-no?

I'm no expert or veteran on the subject, but I'll reply since carto's are so simple for me.

I always blind squonk my carto until I feel the resistance, then occasionally before I fire up I give a short but sort of strong drag to make sure juice is nicely up there, then fire it up and vape away.

I do find my thicker DIY juices seem to be the problem with not only wetting the carto nicely, but it also seems to shorten the life of them too. My BWB malty toffee can juice no problem and the carto's happily go along for the ride. But my vg DIY juices usually kill the carto within a weeks time - no matter how light the color is (if that is the problem - btw, I use PA for flavorings).

So to get away from my ADD and try and answer your question, I squonk every 5 or so puffs depending on the strength of my last squonk, the length of the drags I take and what juice I'm using. The short strong drag before firing may help. I also on occasion do that after a pull or two in between squonks just for the hell of it. But so far I've never needed to turn it upside down to get the carto nicely soaked.

It took me a minute, but here is a copy from the measurements, parts and terminology sticky

Squonk or squonking: The act (or art- it's a learned process) of pushing on the plastic bottle in a Reo to send juice into the atomizer. This term is credited to Jack Murray!!

Blind Squonk: The act of sucking gently on the drip tip as you squonk the juice...as soon as you feel pressure in your mouth (some say, when you hear a slight gurgle) let off and that should be enough juice to vape. This term is credited to Infernia!!

When you squeeze the bottle and suck on the atty/carto at the same time=squonking. (Hope thats right lol)

That's blind squonking :) Blind because you can't see the juice go up like you could if you were just to hold the mod in front of your face and squeeze until the juice appears in the reservoir.

I am a bit different. I fill my carto with a 18 guage beveled needle and syringe. Then as I vape, about every 10 minutes or so I squonk the bottle. However I squonk slowly and firmly pretty deep on the bottle while taking short light draws. When I hear slurping i hold the bottle in at that point, continue to do short draws until the slurping stops. I may do this 2 or three times depending on how long I have been vaping since the last sqonk. A few times during the day I might check and if the carto looks a little dry I do this same procedure until the top looks wet again.

Its probably preference, but I find that I get better vapor and taste when the carto isn't "sopping" wet, so I actually squonk as little as possible. Coming from 1ml cartos i treat it more like "topping off" where after a bit of vaping on the carto you drip into the top to re-wet.

Hope this helps. Only drawback I have found is sometimes I get a little juice in the mouth if I get overzealous and squonk too often.

When you become a master squonker and have been doing cartos as long as I have on a REO you can move up to the "advanced method"

I hesitate to mention it here because it is tricky to pull off ...... much practice needed young grasshopper!

After vaping Boge cartos full time on at least one REO for 6 months + I've noticed that the first hit after a squonk tastes the best .... the one with the slight gurgle .....

But I can't squonk every hit or two ...... or can I ???

Yes you can ... and its delicious.

Blind squonk every two hits so light that you don't think it did anything .... but you can tell by the taste that a bit of fresh juice made it to were it needs to be.

So If i have the time and I am looking for the best vape possible I squonk every one or two hits via the advanced method.
If I am lazy or busy ... or driving ..... I can go 5 or 10 or 15 or 20 ....

Thats the freaking great thing about a carto ...... there is no wrong answer.
I have said it foolproof but its been pointed out that made a couple of people feel like fools ....

So I will just say its super hard to get it wrong.
