can't address stainless steal but with kenthal it's a good ideal to replace them when the resistance increases more to 15% but thats kind of an arbitrary figure.I replace my coils once every 2 month as kind of a preventive maintenance. but I run low power on my tanks ( 10 watts or less). the quality of wire seems to vary from different suppliers and that will affect coil life as well.

The two types of wire I am concerned about is Kanthal and Stainless Steel in general because those are the only types of wire ill be using?

Kanthal degrades and becomes brittle over time. After using 27 and 24 gauge of this wire for a few years I find I can taste when it's getting close to the end of its life. Thinking about it a bit, I give it a really rough estimate of about 600 ml of my juices and/or about 20 dry burns.

Can't help with SS wire. I just wrapped my first coil with this stuff and am looking forward to seeing how it performs :)

My kanthal coils last 2 1/2-3months.

I gently remove tge wicks every 2-3 days, dry burn the coils and re wick.

When flavour gets either dull and 'waxy' or when you can taste the coil, or when it's burned or doesn't work.

With some of the new super tank coils like the Cleito's, they keep on vaping even when the flavour has gone waxy and bad. I find it best to change it anyway, as when I vape a coil that's on it's way out, I get a horrible feeling in my chest and wake up with the same oxygen starved feeling I used to get after smoking

YMMV

Ive had the same build sitting on my 24mm Kennedy since the day i bought it, roughly 5 months ago or so i think. I rewick every 2 to 3 days depending on the juice sometimes sooner, sometimes longer. When i do this, I also dry burn the coil and quench it in a glass of water. Get the screw driver out, and reposition coils and space, etc... Only time I change my coils is when im sick of the build really.

I only use high-resistance, prefabricated replacement atomizers and I run tham at 8 - 10 watts.

Typically, I will replace it when I change juice flavors(usually 30ml or 60ml later) or when it goes bad and starts to taste either burnt or "gluey." On a rare occasion, I will find that a particular atty just doesn't produce vapor like it used to, but in that case I'll probably suffer through it until my bottle is empty and I change flavors again.

If it still hits nice and tastes good, there's no reason to replace it!

My setup is in the signiture area below. It doesn't change. My hunch is that 400 degrees is low stress for stainless and it's not going to release anything in amounts that would be concerning,

I used to rebuild every couple of days. Then I figured out the problem was too much flavoring carmalizing on the coil. My DIY is 1% flavoring and there is virtually no gunking for practical purposes. I do like to put in a fresh wick every 3-4 days. When I do that I run the coil dry at 400 degrees and let it boil off some water then brush the coils gently with tweezers. As far as I can tell the coil is lasting weeks, may be indefinitely. Too much flavoring causes problems. It's one of the reasons to do DIY.

Well when I was talking about the coils breaking down and possibily spitting pieces of metal I was in particular talking about Kanthal. But honestly I don't mind if people wanna talk about other wire as well. The more we connect the more we learn from each other. I'm learning something new every day just from asking questions and talking with others.

I vape hybrid NET which is -notoriously- hard on wick and coils, I re-wick and dry burn the coils at least once a day. After dry burning, I always brush the coils and then fire them one more time. Using 26ga Kanthal I end up re-coiling whenever flavor starts to fall off, about every two weeks. The coils still look and fire good but seem to lose the ability to produce crisp flavor.

What I am concerned with the most is like the metals breaking down and possibly spitting little particles of metal when vaping. I don't even know if this is possible, but still I have to ask.

I'm no scientist but I only use Kanthal (just started using Stainless Steel recently) but when my vape starts tasting bad, I clean or rebuild my coils. When I pull my tank or RDA apart the coils are covered in black gunk, caramelized old juice. I think that stuff is going to trap any metal particles (if that can even happen). What's worse is that gunk is actually burning and joining the vapor.
