Hey guys and gals. :)

I think in my paranoia about burning cartos, I've been topping up too often and flooding my blank volt carts.

They get a burning taste, and they are definitely full of juice. I refill sometimes where I do get drops out the bottom, but not putting down the hole in the center, and I drop more juice in a few times a day. I don't think I'm a huge vaper either as I've only gone through about 20 mls in 3 weeks.

Im using intellicig rich ecopure, and would like to keep using that as the doc thinks I have fibromyalgia and I've read pg can mess with that. But I've also read ecopure rich (100%vg) is thin for a vg juice, too thin for some tanks, and perfect for carts. So I think it is me! :p

Hopefully I've put up enough info for some advice. I get wonderful taste and vapor when using them fresh, so at least I seem to be doing the first fill ok. Thanks.

I usually wait until the top of the cotton batting inside looks dry. When it's dry, it's stark white. When it's moist...it has almost a grayish tint to it. When it's full, it looks like slush ice...slushy and grayish. I NEVER get drips out of the bottom of my carto...so I would guess that you are over filling them. I will vape on a carto until it's almost bone dry. LOL I haven't burned one out yet.

EDIT: And when I do top off a used carto, I only use 3 drops of juice.

Thanks Poppie. Based on that, I'm topping up too much. They never look dry at the top. Maybe one part of the top may appear to be starting to dry out, but certainly not the entire top. Sounds like I'm putting too much in, as I thought I was from my research on this forum. :p

Thank you. I will wait until I see the top dry before topping up, and see how I go.

If it looks full and you're still getting a burnt taste, it could be that the liquid isn't making it all the way down to the coil. You could try Taryn spinning it (try this first), or condom-filling from the threaded end (give it a few minutes to soak in - then you can blow any excess back out into the condom for the next fill).
Normally I'd say let it sit overnight, but I don't think that would make much of a difference with VG. Once you get it going though, it will behave and refills will be easy. With my 80PG/20VG, I usually refill (+/- 1/2 condom-full) when the battery dies (my full cartos usually have enough for almost 2 batteries).

Many thanks

For me personally i will top them off when the batting starts looking a bit dry and fill it from the top dripping drops around the side of the carto until it pools on top and wont except anymore eliquid i will occasionally drip one to two drops through the battery end to prime the carto wire when it tastes a bit off and then blow through the hole to make sure there there is no left over e liquid and leave it to sit for 20 mins to make sure there is no leakage as you can possibly kill your auto batts if eliquid gets into the battery.

Thanks everyone. :)

I will try to recover some of my overfilled carts with your method cindycated, but I'm pretty happy if I can just not mess any future ones up.

Overwhelmed in NY, what I read was that PG is more dehydrating than VG, so your muscles can become more dehydrated, which will make them hurt more. We live in a very hot, humid climate, so that is already working against me, so I didn't want to take another chance. If you keep up fluids, don't live in tropical weather, you might be ok with PG. Everyone seems to have different symptoms. I hope you feel better. The ecopure, while more expensive, does taste nice when you don't flood your cartos lol, and is very pure. Might be worth a shot for you just as a test. Good luck. :)

Oh forgot the important part. I've been topping up less, like Poppie said, and the drops soak straight in instead of sitting on the top, so this seems to be working well, knock on wood. Thanks again everyone.

Update: I started to get the burn taste again, so I did drop 1 drop of juice up the battery end, and the taste improved a lot. Thanks VapeMagic. I think you may have cleared up what's been going wrong for me. I occasionally need a drop on the carto wire end using this juice. Appreciate that information. :)

On my ego mega dual coil cartos I fill em up in the morning. And generally add a few drops during the day. Just have a 3ml bottle with me when I go to work. That way I always have full flavor and the carto doesn't run dry etc.

Smaller cartors like boge LR ones, i just put on the condom on a regular basis

Well sorry to say I'm still having major problems with burnt taste. I've tried all methods, condom, leave 24 hours that way, top fill, few drops in the battery end, and so I went and got a syringe. The only ones they would sell me were the one this guy is using in this video:

cartomizer refill demo - YouTube

But the top of the cartos cotton fill are so hard, I can't push the needle through to then press the juice in. What am I doing wrong?

Do you remove the plastic cap from the carto or do you follow that guys instructions?
Because i think he has something empty on his head, you have to remove the rubber cap first to make your life easy.

btw that's a hypodermic needle he has, it breaks easy. I'm using a thicker one and it can go through the filler without even pressing it.

Konstantine, I remove the silicone rubber end. I can't get that thin needle through the top layer of the blank volt carts. There is like a hard thick layer, and you can see some parts of the cotton filler look like yellow, and this part is the hardest. These are not refilling already prefilled carts. Are yours blanks, or are you using prefilled first. Honestly, it's as hard as a rock. If I press any harder, I'll snap the needle. :(

Insert the needle between the carto wall and the filler, be sure to leave the battery end carto cover on so the liquid doesn't leak out.
It's been my experience that thick liquids just don't wick well in these cartos.
I have always gotten the best results by doing the condom fill from the battery end and then letting them sit for a couple of days before using, even then I have to top it off often and let it rest awhile in between vapes.

Thank you again everyone. :)

Yes, rave, that is how it looks although maybe not so spotty, but the yellow is in larger patches. I did try putting it into the filler. I will try down the side wall again tomorrow. I did try the wall earlier too, and it seemed like it was quite hard even to get down the side. I need to find the right type of syringe.

Today is the first day I've become frustrated, but persisted. I have a new condom filled going ATM, but I only seem to get around 5, maybe 6 hours out of these carts. The juice is very thin. Absorbs in very quickly, but I'm a noob and have no idea about wicking etc. lol. I'll get there. Not picking up a smoke! Thank you again. :)

in the 5-6 hours are you topping off? cause if you are vaping enough you can easily re-dry out a carto in 5-6 hours...

Thank you again everyone. :)

I also use the eco pure rich and it's NOT like a regular vg, it has the consistency of a 70/30, so cartos are not usually an issue with it. Mine is doing fine.

ChickOz, that's kind of an odd one, and not sure that you're doing anything wrong, but it does sound weird.

And like Imagine said, 5-6 hours of vaping could be using up all your liquid in the carto, maybe top off more often end blow out the excess...gently.

I've been using the same carto with eco pure since sept with no issues or burn taste (never cleaned, just topped off all the time). I filled that one using the drip method, let it sit a few hours in the booties battery side down. Then topped it off from there, blew the excess from the top out of the batt end.

Currently I drip in from 3 to 6 drops every so often, depending how often and hard I'm vaping it. I don't let it get too dry. If I'm vaping hard, then about 3 to 5 drops every 2 hours or so for me, If I switch around more w/other flavors, then 2 to 3 drops every few hours.

Most liquid places sell syringes with the blunt needle (I think 18 gauge) attached. Just look in the "Accessories" or "DIY" section the next time you order. I'm wondering why your filler is so hard. It's supposed to be cotton-y/fluffy, like the inside of a comforter. If you have a 28 gauge needle like the guy in the video, it should inject easily without any force. And if they're new, you should just see white fluffy filler when you remove the end cap, not hard yellow patches. Maybe they're defective?
If the filler is soaked with hardened glue or something, it wouldn't absorb any liquid. Are they all like that?

Thank you cindycated. Yes, I just went and slipped the rubber ends off. They all appear to have yellowish caked layer something similar to what rave posted a picture of. I didn't know if this was normal. I got a 19 gauge today, but the filler was stuck to the sides of the cart. It went through, but there is something sticky making the white cotton hard. Even totally saturated and left for hours, the burnt taste was starting to appear. Shame as I got my passthrough and I love it, but wasted so much juice filling carts that go bad so quickly, I have to slow down. Ordered more, but will not be here for just over a week knock on wood. I started out swell, I never noticed if those carts had this hard film. I am topping up ALL the time. I don't know what to do.
