I witnessed a negative but funny experience last night when I let my brother try a PV for the first time. My brother is in his early 50's and has smoked lights cigarettes for probably 40+ years and has never even tried to quit once. I was sitting over at his house yesterday when I let my sister-in-law try my Volt. After a few puffs, she seemed to like it well enough (she smokes 2 packs a day), so she hollered at my bro to give it a try. Reluctantly, he placed the PV to his lips, took a hit and practically slung it across the room! The puff he took was so short and weak that I knew he couldn't have possibly been able to experience anything from it, nevertheless even be able to taste the juice (in this case, Boba's Bounty) before he made the yuck face! I found it funny that his mind had already convinced him he wouldn't like it before he even had a chance to try it.

It just goes to show how powerful a grasp the mind can have. I smoked analog's for over 20 years, and in that time I have tried to quit numerous times and by numerous methods, but when I tried my first PV I knew I had finally found the method to help me quit! Some people have no desire whatsoever to stop smoking and unfortunately my brother belongs to this club. His health is so bad right now due to decades of smoking that he can't go longer than a few minutes without going into a coughing fit or at least clearing his throat. It really makes me fearful for him...

I got a friend just like this and that includes the coughing--it makes me sad. :(

Sounds like your SIL enjoyed it, so maybe you could get her to convert? As for your brother, he might later down the road and he might not. Maybe he didn't like the taste of Boba's. Then again, maybe his tastebuds are completely borked right now. Next time you're over there, give him another flavor and see what happens.

I don't want to sound mean, but your post made me LOL!

I also had two other flavors with me but he refused to take another hit. With the hit he did take, I would be surprised if he got to taste any BB even after he exhaled. My SIL did like it and started asking me questions about vaping while I was still over there, but then my brother told her that he didn't think she would stick with it and it would just be a waste of money. When she told me that this morning I almost fell off my chair! I was like WTH?! The woman smokes two packs a day and my brother smokes about the same, so together they are spending over $140 a week! I couldn't believe how unsupportive my bro was acting. Amazing.

I would just tell your SIL that he may be right and he also may be wrong and that if she really wants to give it a try you give her all the support she needs and asks for. There may be nothing you can do for your brother at this point but 1 out of 2 ain't bad and who knows down the road he might change his mind.

If I had the resources right now I would even buy her a starter kit myself for her to try (I already told her that), but sadly money is tight. My bro is just scared that if she were to quit smoking that she would start pressuring him into quitting as well, and he isn't having any part of it. I just know how my brother thinks and she is quickly learning. :p

Sadly that is the reason some smokers are so resistant to the idea. they are afraid it just might work.

Hmmm...maybe he don't like his wife telling what to do ?

BTW, vaping is unlikely to help someone who already has serious respiratory problems.

I don't understand.. how can ceasing to inhale the products of combustion ever.... EVER be a bad thing?

Sure, inhaling anything but clean air is bad for you. But I'd wager that switching to vaping, no matter your condition, would be better than continuing to smoke.... of course quitting 100% is the answer, but not always the solution.

Not to argue with anyone (its is NOT my intention) but I do have 2 long term respiratory diseases and and have found vaping to be mostly non irritating to me. I use very little VG because heavy use does congest me, but other wise I am breathing so much better from not smoking. I am in the best health I have been in, in years and I don't for see anything coming between me and my juice. :)

My wife had asthma and emphazema. She couldn't handle ecigs any better than real cigarettes. I asked about it in this forum and some people in the know gave me the bad news. The doctors do tell us that after a certain point the damage done by cigarettes is irreversible.

But this sad news should motivate we that have switched to stay with ecigs. Not wait to switch to ecigs when the only solution is to quit smoking and vaping altogether--counting ourselves lucky not to be on an oxygen tank.

Great first post! Welcome aboard...

Actually he has 291 posts and 1 blog entry :p.

Anyways, one of my roommates is almost the same way. He tries all my various flavors, he says he likes them, but in the end all he says is "When they have a flavor that tastes exactly like a Camel Menthol full flavor, maybe I'll switch." Not exactly the same as OP's situation, but in the same area.

Yeah, younger brother's know nothing and all their ideas are bad. Even good ideas, when spoken by younger brothers, become bad ones. This is a Fact.

I agree with you except for the Even Good ideas part. My younger brother never had one so there was never a need to make it a bad one.
