i know it should be snug enough to go through the coil without too much resistance. and i have been doing that. but lately, drag from my atty is not consistent. sometimes i can take 10 drag and get that light burnt taste telling me to drip again, and sometimes it's just 5 drag.

what's the best way to wick the coil for long vape without keep driving every 5-8 drag? should i wick it with thin wick?

I'm not convinced about the wick thickness making a lot of difference. In the case of cotton i have always found that a wet wick is pretty much the same dia. as a dry one. A wick that is not touching the coil or with a gap can lead to the coil heating up too much and giving a burnt feeling. It is impossible to get a cotton wick through a coil if it is too thick anyway.
In my experience the important bit is how loose the cotton is either side of the coil. That will have an impact on how well it wicks. If the 'tails' are too compact then that will reduce the wicking capabilities.
There are too many variables to answer your question properly. Add some details and i'm sure loads of peeps will help you out. :)
