I have alot of buildup on my VTC5's. Kind of like a black ring that forms around the negative side. I was wondering what is the best way to clean this off.

I have tried a pencil eraser and 99% isopropyl alcohol, they didnt really do much. I think i need something much more abrasive.

Im thinking a brillo pad would maybe work. Anyone have any ideas?

If alcohol and an eraser didn't take it off then it's likely not gonna get better with brillo. Seems to me that you are wearing the plating off that contact and using anything with even more abrasive properties will only exacerbate the situation.

If it was me I'd just clean with alcohol and a cotton swab and call it done.

I mostly use a Reo Grand mechanical. The switch contacts meet the positive end of the battery as opposed to most tube mods with bottom switches. Every time you hit the switch a small spark happens when the contact is just about to meet the battery. I can actually see it because I can take the door off the Reo and the switch is visible.

I get the same ring as you do on the positive end of my batteries. It's spark erosion on the battery. I don't know if it is non-conductive, but about every month or so I take a small piece of 1000 grit sandpaper and give the battery surface a few gentle swipes staying clear of the wrapper as best I can.

It probably doesn't any difference to the performance of my mod, but I feel better
