how to clean battery

I use a v2 battery with pre filled carts. I noticed where the battery and cart conncet, the battery is discolored. Can I clean it with plain water, alcohol or what .

I clean my connections with alcohol wipes and/or q tips dipped in alcohol, then wipe it good to make sure it dries
