I usually just thoroughly rinse them out with hot water, dry them off as best as you can (also blow through them), then do a dry burn.
After the dry burn, rinse/soak again to get rid of the burned residue from dry burn & smell. Put liquid in and after 4-5 draw it should be back to normal.

Just be carefull pulling it apart... I had all sorts of trouble with mine and one ended up with fractures in the base.

Thomas Crown described the cleaning well - I would just add that I squirt through a couple syringes full of isopropyl alcohol after rinsing it with hot water.
From your description, I suspect your issue may be less that the clearos need cleaning (not after one day - unless you are vaping asphalt), but that you may not be keeping them full of enough liquid.
Although the clearos don't look empty and the wicks are definitely in the liquid, I find they get that burnt taste when the fluid gets to about 0.6ml - sometimes even at 0.8.
I refill, take a puff or two, and the burnt taste is gone.

i like to use isop alcohol as well to clean mine. though i have only had to clean them a few times. *after loading a new juice that turned out to taste like baked .....er.... how do i say this without curseing... anyway.. yah, just cleaned it out and let it sit for a few hrs and was good to go.
I have cleaned two by just soaking them in cheap vodka and then shaking them up,draining, dry burning for a couple secs, then using them with great sucess. They weren't too dirty to begin with though.
