Thank you for your kind words everyone. MrKrinkle I really cannot answer your question. I bought this little "Chinese" bench grinder that came with two stone wheels (one thick one thin), two wire brushes and two polishing wheels. I also picked up a Stainless Steel polishing kit from eBay which had some compounds and different wheels for buffing/polishing.
Please remember I'm not a specialist in this, I've never done it before. I'm sure if a craftsman sees this he'll probably laugh at the "gheto" method I used. But hey it worked and if I can do it then any Joe can do it.
MrKrinkle you certainly need a fairly fine stone to grind the top so it doesn't leave deep gouges in the metal otherwise it will be hard to take those out later and make it smooth
