Hey guys, just thought I'd share this quick how-to video with everyone. This video shows how to remove the polyfill in a regular Volt carto with just a paper-clip (as opposed to needle-nose-pliers and a needle as shown in other videos). I'm sure many of you are already aware of this little trick/mod but for those that aren't, enjoy!

Edit: Fixed the embed video BB code :)

That's easy enough!!!! Thanks. So, I can do this with a carto and then use it to test juices by dripping?

Exactly! I started doing it purely for testing/sampling juices but now it's my preferred method of vaping. Volt cartos aren't really designed for this sort of thing (they tend to leak if you put in more than 2 drops) but I prefer the vapor and throat hit from a Volt carto compared to a 510 or 901 atomizer.

Great idea for testing new liquids, but just where do you drip and how much do you drip? I assume, an we all know what can happen when you assume, that you drip down outside of the air tube, but just how much is enough? When you say "2 drops" are those drops from a bottle or syringe and, if a syringe, what guage is the needle? Drop sizes can vary quite a bit depending on the needle guage.

Two drops from a bottle, but I would think two drops from a syringe would be about the same, if it leaks out... then its too much so its pretty easy to get a feel for the right amount.

Also when I first saw the above video I was not able to find a paper clip, so I used a safety pin that I bent the end of the pin into what looks just like a tiny fish hook with some needle nose pliers... this also worked like a charm, just dig the "hook" into the poly fill and pull it out.

I'm "frugal" (aka cheap) so rather than sacrafice a perfectly good carto I've been testing juices using my Prosmoke. I just pulled the filler using tweezers and drip a single drop from the bottle onto the wick of the atty. It's good for about 8 or so hits. Drop size does vary depending on the the diameter or guage in use. For example the drop from a 20 guage needle is much smaller than one from an eye dropper or a bottle.

2 drops from a standard e-liquid bottle is what I mean when I say 2 drops, I've never tried using a syringe so unfortunately I can't help with that!

so after you drip a drop or 2 of liquid into the cart you just put the cap back on and take a few hits off of it?

after you sample one juice can you just repeat the process with another juice or do you have to clean out the carto some way so that different juices dont blend together and taste weird?

Yup, 2 drops and a few hits is exactly right. I jump from flavor to flavor all the time without any cleaning and I barely notice the previous juice after first or second puff.

Yes that is correct, though putting the plastic .... plug back in is optional... as long as you dont tip it upside down.

When I go to change flavors I just rinse the carto under hot water for a maybe 10 seconds, that flick my wrist with it to get the water out, and blow though it, and give it a dry hit just to make sure, then drip in whatever new flavor I want. I only do this to test new flavors before I commit to filling a new carto with the new flavor.

Nice thread!

One thing that I found is that some flavors will not come out, no matter how much you vape on them and clean them. Menthol, cinnamon, and most dark juices linger forever or permanently clog the wick, so it's a good idea to use a separate carto for those types of flavors.

When I switch from one flavor to the next, I vape a low-key flavor, like cotton candy, to flush out the last flavor. Others have used unflavored juice (just pg/vg) to do this, and some vendors carry atty refreshers.

It's a good idea to drink plenty of ice water when testing juices, not only to stay hydrated, but also to cleanse your tongue and give your taste buds a break.

so i got home and tryed it for the first time...didnt work very well :(

i used a carto that wasnt empty but was probably close. no burnt taste or anything. i used a paperclip and took the two filters out ( the cotton). it was kinda hard, didnt come out very easy. but i did manage to get it out with the tube still in place. dropped in 2 drops of a tobacco flavored juice. waited for it to settle at the bottom. took a few hits and was getting little to no vapor and little to no taste

what am i doing wrong?

You don't really need that center wick tube. For me personally, it just gets in the way. I just yank it out.

Was it gurgling when you hit it? It sounds like you may have flooded the wick. If the carto already had juice in it, the wick was already saturated, and when you added the 2 drops that flooded it, and blocked the airway and the connection. Stick the battery end of the carto against a paper towel and blow out all of the juice that you can. Clean off the threads and then try vaping on it. Be sure to clean the threads of the battery as well. If it starts hitting correctly, vape until you get a hit that has diminished flavor or vapor, and tastes like the juice is about to burn. You'll know what I mean when you get there. As soon as that happens, add 2 more drops of juice and enjoy. Repeat as needed. :)
