OMG... the desperate mostly unsmoked .... search. That really drives those "I need to quit" moments home....

Now its... EGAD! I'm almost out of Atomic Fireball! I have to lower myself to vaping the Butterfinger! Oh noes! The horror!!!

I was always very successful at quitting! I could quit smoking like there was no tomorrow if I set my mind to it. Could usually last about 2-3 weeks. Then something would happen. Might be a beer. Maybe a teenage girl tantrum. Maybe an audit notice, or a summons. The loss of a frost bitten toe, or my Obama chia pet died. Something really stressful. I would rationalize... I can have... just one...

But I can't have just one... They don't sell singles, and I never wanted to throw away the rest of the pack. I was so feakin' dumb that I bought single packs for about the last ten years because I didn't want part of a carton holding me back from quitting.

Been there, done that. Actually bought 3 packs at a time but that was a one-day supply.

Glad you quit and lived to tell the story. How long ago did you quit and how much were those singles costing you there in NY?

Single packs of Marlboro lights were costing me $6.08 back at the end of November when I quit.

After the flavored cigarette ban, I order two cartons of cloves from Sri Pankalanka-diggidy-doo-dar somewhere... I was so disgusted at the situation, I researched ecigs.

Now I have two cartons of cloves collecting dust. Fortunately my boss is a casual clove smoker (literally like a pack in a month).. so when she runs out, I make like I have to "talk to my connection" and "find her a pack from the underground"

Makes her happy, and gives me brownie points hehehe

See my signature for when. As for how much -- $10.50 a pack of Virginia Slims. The only plus side is that I've bought a TON of supplies and I'm still way ahead.

I have sleep apnea but that's only partially from the smoking (weight and heredity are also factors for me) but, other than that, my lungs are fine. I never really had a cough (maybe every couple of weeks I'd cough a bit). I had surgery twice last year (cataracts) and a pre-surgery exam for each. They were clear.

I do notice, however, that my allergies have gone from "let me gouge my eyes out" to "I need one Advil" since I quit smoking.

But you're in tobacco country. Why would you need to stock up?
Well, while cigarettes here are considerably cheaper than they are in New York or even in California, where I recently lived, I had gotten in the habit of buying them online. Generics online are practically a bargain but when you consider shipping, it makes more sense to buy in bulk. Plus, for months they've been threatening to pass the PACT Act (and they finally did) which will make online, mail and phone sales of cigarettes illegal.

All of that plus my neurotic fear of running out, caused me to get carried away. :p

Well after many months of daily abuse the transformer on my powder-coating gun went up in smoke last night.

So... new transformer and a complete back up gun are being red labeled to me today.

I did rig up a tempory fix by pillaging the transformer off one of my Jacobs Ladders... OSHA would not approve, we'll leave it at that. However there WILL be prOn tonight!

And Thag said "Let there be pr0n"; and there was pr0n. And Thag saw that the pr0n was good.

ETA: Why do I have the feeling that I ground the poor Saturday thread to a halt. If I offended anyone with the above, I apologize. It's not meant as a comment on any religious beliefs -- it's just a joke that uses the language.

Sorry, I could have been contributing, but I was sitting in a corner, weeping at the loss of Jeff's powder coat gun. (Not that I care about the gun, but that's at least one more day between me and my newborn )

Aren't we all glad that OSHA doesn't inspect our workshops!
