As a noob I am trying to keep my attys clean (I wash them in really hot tap water and dry them over night every couple of days). Anything else I should be doing? How can I tell if they are toast? Any chance of "bringing them back from the dead?" I have a 510 if that makes any difference. Also, is there any way to disassemble it to really get to the atty - IE, remove the metal "sleeve" around it?

You have dead attys after 10 days of vaping?

You should NEVER clean an atty until it doesn't work. Less is better.

Not sure - one isn't working that well and seems to flood a lot compared to the other. Not sure if it is just that one is better than the other or what...

Are you switching flavors using the same atomizer??

If you have two, simply return the one you have issues with and get a replacement. If you've only had it for 10 days there should be no problems. The company you bought it from should have no complaints replacing an atomizer free of charge and if they are respectable it should return Very quickly.

OK - I am totally confused again then. I had read several members who swore by cleaning daily. When should I clean and how?

Did the manual say to clean the item? Did the manual state how long that item should last? Every manual I have says atomizer life is 6 months. I would expect that company to replace any atomizer which is broken within that time frame or they will no longer receive business from me as long as I used the product as the manual suggest.

I clean my atties ONLY when they decrease performance or when i use some stronger juice and wanna change. Other than that it's really a matter of not flooding it too much (never would be the optimal). Every night i blow on all of my atties (510 and 901) and thats pretty much it.

I used to dry burn the atties. Not anymore. I use HighPing's method exclusively has this is the method the most similar to the Joey's recommended method. It never failed me on a 510 or a 901 atty. Never. Also brought back to life some atties that where as good as dead.

Have to disagree. No manual states that an atomizer will last 6 months. Some give a 6 month warranty but that does not mean that the average life of an atomizer should be 6 months because it's life simply depends really on maintenance.

If you think that you should never clean an atomizer you are wrong. And yes the manufacturer says the atty should be cleaned on a regular base. The "stronger" cleaning method is ALSO described by Joye Technologies and is available here at ECF. I must say that until i started to regularly clean my atomizers i lost 2 in the first 15 days of vaping. You must realize that a cleaner atomizer produces a lot more vapor than a dirtier one. The dirtier they are the more one is prone to overdraw...and that is what popped my 2 atomizers.

In 2 months (today i popped 2 of them with the certainty that i would...) i still have the same atties going like new...or better.

can anyone please advise me how to clean an atty on a 901, or with it being enclosed making it difficult to get at from the top. Thanks in advance.

I clean and maintain the 901's just by doing the same as on a 510. Blow them off every other day. If they under perform dramatically (a friend of mine usually vapes the 901's till they don't produce any vapor at all) i just rinse them under hot tap water, blow the most water i can and dry them with a manual battery or (if there's none at hand) blow the end of the battery with the atomizer attached on the other end till it hits the cut-off. I'll do it keeping a finger on the atty and making sure it does not over heat. When i can hear no sizzles, it is good as new.

This method is best described here as it is not my own invention (but it uses to some extent the recommended method from Joye Tech.):http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/tips-tricks/69834-my-atty-resurrection-method.html

Also as a proof of what happens , faster than one might think, to a gunked up atty, please read this user experience:

If you do want to clean the atty's daily I wouldn't use water. get some everclear or high % rubbing alcohol. These will clean better and dry quickly (dry is very important) Also after cleaning you need to prime them with a lot more juice than you think. I would say only clean every month or so. No need to be this crazy about cleaning. wastes juice too.

Where can I find this method? I think one of the ones I have is about toast anyway. I get 1 draw or two on it and it stops working. I was using VV coffee when it quit working and wanted to get the flavor out of it andyway, but it is not working now any better after rinsing it in water and letting it dry overnight.

Rinsing with hot water is not everyday cleaning. Usually i do this at most every 2 weeks, depending on the juices i wanna use.

And here with some more methods used by ECF members:

My favorite - clean-burn gunk / revive atomizer - Use with proper care and follow all instructions:

I always clean my atties, hot water and vodka. But in 45 (46, something like that) days of vaping, they all still work great. I haven't run into a problem with one yet. Do make sure they are very dry inside before you use them again. (By dry, I don't mean the wick, just the inside, rewet the wick when you use it again with a couple of drops of juice).

Don't ever use rubbing alcohol!!! Any residual left in the atty can be very bad to inhale.
