Howdy people whats going on. Just got my first mechanical mod (Nemesis) and my first rda (mephisto) free as a birthday present. Im not going to lie and gonna go ahead and say it, im a newbie with these things. I had an e-pen variable voltage before so im not a newbie when it comes to vaping.

On to my question, i need a way to learn everything as if your teaching a baby how to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwhich. Can someone please explain to me what kind of cotton to use, how to wic it PROPERLLY, how much fluid to put in and what not.

The guy who gave me the mod cleaned it out and left the coil in. I put in one of my 18650's i already have which is an Ultra Fire brand 4,000 mAh 3.7volt Lion battery. I boiled some conventional cotton and drained it a couple of times and wicced it (with the amount i saw appropriate) and its just not producing the vape that i saw coming out with my buddy when he had his get up. The little bit of vape that it does produce is friggen hot and burns the hell out of the back of my throat. What am i doing wrong?

The first thing you need to do is be safe.

In order to do that you need to know what resistance your coil is. If you do not know the resistance you should not vape it. Get an ohm meter and check it.

The next thing you need to do, once you know the resistance of the coil, is find out how many amps it is drawing. Find an Ohm's law calculator, Google is your friend, and plug in 4.2 volts, a freshly charged battery, and whatever you found your ohms to be. This will tell you how many amps you are drawing.

Now you need to find out how many amps your battery will support. The is not the capacity of the battery, 4,000 mili amp hours as claimed by the maker, but you have to find out what load, in amps, the battery will support. Then you have to decide, for yourself, if you feel comfortable holding the thing up to your face.

For a mechanical mod I like to stay under 80% of what a battery can do.

Before you worry about flavor or clouds be safe.

All of what p7willm said times a thousand. You're moving waaaay to quickly and are possibly going to end up hurt. That battery is NOT safe, and if you don't know your batteries specs off the top of your head yet, and don't know your resistance, you have no business using that device.

Shopping List:

A different battery. The one you have is not safe, and can go kaboom. This site suggests batteries, and gives you some handy calculations Battery mAh & C Rating = amp Calculator I like the SONY vtc series. Baditude's blogs deal with battery safety E-Cigarette Forum - Baditude - Blogs

A digital multimeter: You can buy it anywhere. It's useful for measuring your battery voltage.
Since a mech mod doesn't automatically stop firing when the battery is too low, you have to go by "feel." Measuring the battery when the vape gets weak, or after some hours, is necessary. If you let the battery go below, say, 3.2, you could wreck it. I switch to a fresh battery around 3.6

A good battery charger. Nitecore Intellicharger i2 or i4 are great

It's more practical and fun to build your own coils. I strongly suggest you get the battery situation sorted out first.

EVERYTHING!!!!

Get a multimeter, get a much better battery, watch a few hours of coil/wick building videos.

I suspect at first though.. you have too much cotton, it isnt wicking properly so you are actually sucking on burning cotton.

Did you even fire your build before trying to vape it? fire it with the cap off? to see if the coils glowed right? if vapor was produced?
