Howto perfectly fill a Carto in one minute

First of all, I know that everyone has their own method, but let me introduce mine. It fills the carto completely in one minute without flooding the center passage and requires no extra tools.

- Take the carto out of the package, remove the top condom and the mouthpiece
- Drip three drops of juice onto the outer filler material (it will not be absorbed properly)
- Suck on the carto

Wait, what? That's right, suck on it. I'm not sure about the exact physical phenomenon (believe it or not, but Einstein wrote his first research paper about capillary action in a vacuum), but by introducing a vacuum in the center passage, the juice will wick down immediately. My guess is that by removing the air in the filler material, the juice gets "sucked" down by the gravitational force at an accelerated rate, but your guess is as good as mine.

- Add another three drops and keep sucking, repeat until the juice doesn't wick away anymore and stays on top.
- Remove the bottom condom along with the silicone pin
- Enjoy a completely and evenly, perfectly filled carto.

I'm not sure I get this. Are you sucking on the top or connector end of the carto?


I'm not sure I would like this method. I don't like putting my mouth on the carto for any reason. I don't like the possibility of getting any e-liquid into my mouth.

I believe my method to be just as fast as yours, and does not require putting one's mouth on the carto.

You can also use a drip tip, however if you didn't spill any liquid on the outside of the carto, you won't get any into your mouth.

It doesn't work like a straw where you suck the liquid up but by creating a vacuum in the polyfill to ease the juice wicking down. Sounds counterintuitive, but works just fine.

I use flanged cartos so this would be difficult for me as I would not be able to make a good vacuum.
I do it similar though.
I fill the carto almost to the top. cover the hole at the bottom with cotton ball or similar as tight as comfortably possible.
I blow on it until air flows easily. I do this twice which I am sure is over kill. Less than a minute. Probably less than thirty second.

You can get the same basic effect by blowing instead of sucking if you remove both condoms. (Is it just me, or does this thread seem NSFW?)

You can use the same drop technique (I prefer needle caps) then blow through the end opposite the connector. I top it once with a needle cap and then it's done, also inside half a minute.

Originally I also read the technique with blowing into it, but the vacuum thing worked better for me. Blowing into it also increases the air pressure in the polyfill material, which should actually work even worse than dripping at atmospheric pressure. Coming to think of it (behold my mad paint skills):

eLiquid is, well, a liquid. You can't compress nor expand a liquid, you can however compress and expand air. So by introducing a vacuum in the carto (blue), the pressure in the polyfill is lower than the pressure of the liquid (which doesn't change when you suck on it; brown). Now this is a closed system, so it aims for the equalization of pressure - in this case between vacuum and the liquid, and the distribution in the polyfill between the vacuum and the liquid will be completely even.

Or something like that.

Once it's filled, even 100% VG gets absorbed immediately when you drip into a warm carto anyways. Preheating the liquid and carto will also help the initial fill as it thins the liquid down.

I believe you that a vacuum is definitely the way to fill every fiber. Blowing through it does indeed move the liquid towards the bottom, whether or not it completely replaces every air molecule. That's all, not saying its better, just effective. If you wanted to get for serious with the vacuum idea you could use a vacuum pump. An Instructable on how to make one from a bicycle pump. Love that site...
