Pharmaceutical companies have no need for tax breaks, they get subsidies for research and development as it is. They are profit driven using R&D as a cover to justify said profits. Here is 2 good examples...1. Insulin has been around since the late 50's and has been improved dramatically but they have some varieties that have been developed 30 years ago and well beyond recovering the cost to R&D. That very same insulin at first, cost the patient around 25 USD and today close to 195 USD for ONE VIAL yet they will continue to claim it is to cover the cost of development.....2. .........it has been available long before the name you know it as today, they even have an extension on the patent to avoid it going generic. It started out at a cost of around 4 USD per tab, today upwards of 30 USD. Here is the kicker... it has been around in generic form for close to 2 decades under another "name" and made by the same company no less! They have actually made a deal with some insurers( Medicare/caid) to not prescribe it for conditions other than what it is intended for and that condition is very specific. It costs around 9 USD per tab.
Well my point is Pharmaceutical companies will never give money to a charity unless there is some form of a kickback. They want all the money they can get so they can continue to pay the FDA for approval on meds that actually cause more harm than good....One reason many people take several medications just to counter the others they take. The circle continues
Rant over....I need a Martini NOW

EDIT: removed incorrect cost from 19 to 9
