Plumbing damage caused by tree roots (closest tree is like 20' or more away). Just crushed 20' of the pipe, it was amazing just how much damage they did.

Here's another reason to love insurance companies - none of this was covered by our homeowners policy. Because the damage and repair are below the slab, it's not covered.

Bit the bullet and took advantage of the torn up old carpet, and did tile & new carpet throughout.

Edit: Morning GPC- lookin' forward to a warm 84 degrees today

I hear the owner also holds a patent for an ejection seat for helicopters.

Back to the plumbing talk a few posts back - been there...

Here on the left coast, this is how you get under the house... in 2015, main line replace - 40' total trenching, down the hall, under the wall and across a bedroom (pictured), under another wall and through my shop... what a mess. My son took not having a bedroom for weeks pretty well.
Didn't realize you were Inand Empire. Kinda warm there, we're supposed to get 75 today

Couldn't they have done a pipeburst? Or a liner?

I heard he's coming out with a line of bullet proof lasagna.

That's how we get under a house here too.Thankfully our house's main line is still good.(house circa 1947).I'll dread the day we gotta do that, not fun!.Our main stack (iron) will need replacing in a few years though.
Should really look into trenchless repairs. I work for the city sewer dept as well as a fill in side sewer ( house to main line in street) inspector. There are many different routes to replace sewers.
Many WAY more less invasive. But ALWAYS ALWAYS get at least 3 quotes

We had that happen in GA, pine tree root grew under our sewer line. We had a three foot deep by 100' long trench in our backyard! Two days digging and a plumber later we had it fixed.

Didn't look likely. Got a few quotes, went with a contractor we know from church. We were watching the video feed of the pipe cam, and there were intermittent spots where the pipe was crushed so badly, you could see the printing that is on the OUTSIDE of the pipe! About 20' of destroyed pipe distributed over about 40'. Luckily, the end of the damage was also where the pipe crushed down so badly, the camera couldn't go any further. And it was a tiny bullet cam. Man, glad that's over.

Yup - had really strange weather here these last several months. Not nearly enough being stormy and in the 30's, but hot and dry - flirting with 100 - in January, February. Another year without much rain.

Yes - the liners are an awesome idea (yea! engineering). Great that we have materials and methods to make that happen.
