I've been looking at getting a new device, and have been looking at hybrids like the diablo, nosmoke, etc. etc. as well as mech mods, and I'm just wondering what makes hybrids so expensive? I know they are rare and hand made(for the most part), but am I missing something? Not bashing, just curious before I buy...

Well most hybrids range from $200-$300. A lot of the popular (hard to get) ones are built very solid and perform great. There are some that even offer a 510 cap adapter to make them a normal mech mod. If your really into Genesis atty's and form factor is important to you. You will actually save more money getting a hybrid than buying a high end mech mod and high end genesis atty separately. Most high end mods go for $160-$230 alone and Genesis atty's $120-$210.

I used to dislike the fact that most hybrids are fixed with the atty. After noticing that I did have a couple setups where I never really changed the device on my mod. To me it makes sense now why people would like them. I do plan to own one in the future when I find one I like. I really don't like some of the designs coming out right now and some of them just looks so plain. I think I'm at the stage now where I just want to get something I want, not something other people want just because it's rare or limited. When I got into vaping, I wanted a way to quit the cancer sticks. Not become a collector of flashlight tubes. I find it harder and embarrassing every time I have to explain to someone why I spent hundreds to thousands of dollars on stuff that basically deliver the same thing that got me to quit smoking in the first place. Nicotine.

I've been eyeing iHybrid's site and a couple others...I like the idea of an all-in-one APV. Plus, I'm a minimalist so I love the designs. :D

My concern is that maybe it's "out of my league" on the technical side--I see all the tinkerers here and I know that I'm not one. I don't want to learn how to wick, make a coil, or any of that stuff. I like they way they look and I want one if it's relatively easy to operate.

I don't want to plunk down a good deal of cash if I'm not going to be able to use it right out of the gate, so if someone here would like to offer any advise I'm all ears!

Zen has been saying he has been trying to get a lot of them to start out with, he doesn't want it to be exclusive. I am sure they will sell quick but it seems that it's working more towards production than limited run. ZAPs and ZAUs have been pretty constantly available so maybe he's got a good pipeline going.

The only advantage a hybrid gives over a mech mod with a 510 connection is aesthetics. It gives a clean, one piece kind of look, but they are not always shorter in length than a mod with gen atty. I would go with a good mod with a 510 connection. You can put on attys, cartos, BCCs, RDAs,RBAs, etc. With a hybrid you are usually stuck with the atty it has on there. With a mod you can start out with a cheap genesis like the AGA-T and upgrade or change attys as you see fit. I believe all hybrids these days should include a RBA, RDA, and 510 cap....it would actually make them worth the price.

A hybrid really isn't more expensive when you take everything into account.

How much would you pay for a high end mechanical and a high end genesis atomizer? Probably MORE than what a hybrid costs. IMHO, that's what makes the iHybrid F3CTA such a great value. Not only is it a hybrid, it's also a stand alone mechanical and genesis atomizer ... for $250.

I love both of my hybrids and they're pretty much all I ever use at home.

You're eliminating a point of failure and a potential point of voltage drop, looks aren't the only advantage of a hybrid.

TL;DR

My Orion 2.1 was Cheaper than both my Poldiac DID And ZAP Provari combo.

Well sold off the ZAP-ari a while ago. Didn't like it, but I got even money for it. Love my Orion.

If you compare 'apples to apples' actually hybrids are typically cheaper...

Don't worry, it won't be far off till China starts cloning hybrids.

Are they worth it? In a word, no. You can get just as good a vape with a Sigelie #8 and a AGA-T for a fraction of the price. It wouldn't look as cool, but I personally don't thing the look is worth another one hundred plus dollars. Hell, I would much rather get an AGA and a Puresmoker Legacy. The quality of craftsmanship is still outstanding, it would be much more versatile and it would still cost less.
