What kind of a unit is this? Can you recoil it? Why were you tugging on it? ...

It's an eGo. I did precision soldering about 20 years ago, but don't have that kind of equipment (and don't even think it would be advisable). I wasn't "tugging" on it; I was just trying to separate the wick from the coil to clean them. Should've stopped when I felt the resistance.

I was thinking I should soak it in some kind of cleaning solution since we're talking about a charcoal build up. I know oven cleaner would work, but I wouldn't want to use it for inhaling if I did that. I know if you put oven racks in a plastic bag with ammonia (and seal it up), it will make them easy to clean. Soaking in water wouldn't hurt and I guess I have nothing to loose if I dry burn them.

I guess I should clean them weekly. I cleaned mine last night and had quite a build-up on the coil. I've upped the VG in the last couple weeks and I think I'm getting more of a build-up in response.
