I like a good debate and have been known to get in on the action at times.
A healthy debate is good. It gets points out that I may not have thought of and gives me food for thought.

Fighting and name calling are not good debating skills. ;)

When I first joined ECF, I had no clue about the legislation and local governments trying to put a halt to vaping. In fact, I did trust the government to have my best interest at heart. Man, I had my eyes forced open and what I was seeing... I couldn't ...no words can express my disappointment in what I was learning.

The legislation and news section of the forum IS an important part of ECF, and truthfully? I would never have found that section without having the General vaping section that holds a lot of different subjects. Some threads that I followed were moved over to there. That is the only way I found that part of the forum.

Also, it takes time for new members to really get what is happening around this vaping thing that they just discovered that actually works to get them away from smoking or significantly help them cut back. I think that section can be overwhelming for new members. Heck, they are just learning all this new terminology let alone that there is a fight afoot.

DC, you do a fantastic job of keeping this stuff to the forefront. So, kudos. :)

Some people have other things going on in their life they consider more important than vaping for which they fight. And there is more than one way to fight for a cause. I prefer face-to-face encounters with the opposition. Trying to convince anyone of anything in an internet forum is one of the most daunting and frustrating tasks in the world.

Lots love to throw around that stupid acronym with the word "Zealots" in it. But I've seen behavior that could easily be called zealotry here by vapers and moderators alike.

People really need to take "I'd rather not get involved" for an answer and politely leave it alone. I'll pick my own battles. Rather insulting to say "You are not sticking up for your rights!" or some such nonsense when they have no idea what else one does champion. I am not your enemy if I don't join your group. I come here to relax and have a little fun and sometimes learn a trick or two. Not to "exercise my rights" or "debate policy" or "change the world." But cheers to those who do. It's your life, live it as you see fit and allow me to do likewise.

... but I'm a liberal democrat from CA, so most of the jabs are pointed in my general direction, though none of them seem to ever actually apply to me.

That's my problem too, but I'd never admit it in a public forum. It's also why I have DC2's chair rigged to collapse every time he gets uppity with me. :)

I'm sorry, but I keep getting distracted by that bright shiny thing in another section.
Seriously though, I just wanted to quit smoking, not carry another banner.
And kudos to ECF and all that it is, for that.

I didn't either and for that matter, still don't. But I don't think you'd say that if you really understood what is going on.

I read the new posts once or twice a week, but being a liberal the name calling keeps me from wanting to participate there. I do keep in touch with my legislators, write to my sort-of-local newspaper, and bug the ND Quits people every month or so by sending them factual information about vaping.

I read that section of the forum all the time but have only commented a few times. Most of the political talk is over my head because I've never been interested in politics, with the labels and different groups who all want only what they want and think everyone else should feel the same, like we're all made from the same mold or should be. I usually end up leaving that forum feeling angry but I keep going back so that I can keep abreast of the latest. I'm very glad that section of ECF is available and has so much information, I just have to take a deep breath each time I go in because I know I'm probably gonna be ...... by the time I leave it.

But I would really like to understand some of the reasons why more people don't read this subforum...
Electronic Cigarette News and Campaigning

I suspect many do read there if their interested in getting updates on those subjects but for the most part many probably don't post because they don't want to argue with the over zealous members who can make issues bigger then they really are.

I like to read here to learn and explore what's going on with vape gear, liquids, and what others are doing and buying, but I'm really tired of reading all the this and that is gonna happen crap, the big bad government, and all the complaining. It just gets old.

My question for the Op is -

Why would you be concerned whether we Visit a Sub-forum rather you being concern over the Forum Owner pushing important Vaping information off into a corner?

I work 12hr. days, I'm over 60 and my braim likes to skip a beat whenever possible. I can barely keep up with things around the house let alone remember to search here and there for important information I forgot I should be following.

Yes, I'm serious
Yes, I care
Yes, I'd prefer it was in my face so I don't miss it.

Maybe they could/should sticky that sub-forum at the top of this one.

For me, it was a progression. I came to ECF to learn how to stay off cigarettes, what gear I should get, juices to try etc. I saw the CTA's, saw issues raised on this forum about dealing with people who thought e-cigs were worse than cigarettes, other threads that were moved to 'media and general news'. I followed the bread crumbs.

It was an awakening to me to realize my AG was a lead signer on the letter to the FDA and my state senator is among those calling for a ban on flavors. I wanted to learn more about how to respond to the misinformation out there about ecigs (starting with CASAA). I have Ecig News & Campaigning on my toolbar bookmarks and check it daily. I don't post that often but want to be aware of what is happening. I'm not politically active, however vaping is important to me. Where I can, real life is a *itch at the moment, I try to make my voice heard. It's not much, but I want to believe every little bit helps in the long run.

DC you really have to tell me how maybe 5% of the population has any kind of pull as far as legislation goes.

We'd have to get all of our children and their children vaping to make an impact.

The quieter we are the less likely we are to be persecuted.

We've been persecuted pretty much from the get go. The FDA tried banning vaping in 2009(?) and haven't stopped, just changed methods. I know that here in CA we've been able to stop a few bills that would have been detrimental to vaping, but it's an ongoing battle. We may not have the political force or numbers of say, the NRA, but if we continue to fight bad information with good, and get the word out about how vaping can change lives, maybe we can sway public opinion in our favor.

To Lessifer: Maybe. The trouble is we have this giant monkey on our back in that most people think we are really still smokers.

That's just one reason WHY we have to fight back with GOOD info, as opposed to the nonsense spread by the professional ANTZ.

If we keep quiet, they'll just roll over us the way they did with the anti-smoking laws. We cannot allow that to happen, and I for one am tired of being treated like a social pariah because I happen to enjoy nicotine. People who like alcohol get to enjoy that; people who like coffee get to enjoy that; people who enjoy eating garbage more than regular food get to enjoy that until they're 300 lbs or more overweight. This is NO DIFFERENT. We are consumers like all the rest and we deserve the same rights and considerations, and we also deserve the ordinary courtesy that should be afforded to everyone -- I'm about tired of being lied about, talked down to, and told how I *should* live, according to some killjoy puritan busybody FOOL.
