ive been lurking here as a visitor for a couple months. from what i skimmed in the stickies, is there some sort of hierarchy to where you can only post in these new member forums for some period of time? can anyone please explain it to me in simple terms?

You must first post in New members 5 times before being able to post elsewhere. The thing to remember is that once you hit 5 post you must wait for the forum to update before it registers your 5 posts. This happens at :25 after each hour, you're almost there. Once you hit 70 post you can no longer start new threads in this section, but can still post here.

u have 8 posts now, u should be able to use most of the forum now. You had to post 5 times before being able to use other areas of the forum. You can find the explanation of permissions based off of posts in the new member sticky at top of new member area.

A new member needs just 5 posts. It gives the new member a chance to get used to posting on the forum and introduce him/herself. It also limits the starting threads to the new members who need answers to their questions, so other members can see it without wading through all the other posts. I'm sure there are more reasons, but those are just a few. I see you have 8 posts. You got the run of the house now. Welcome to ECF. That's how you know when you've reached non newb status, it's when you reply faster than those who used to reply faster than you.
navigating the ecf has been the same experience for my first few months. confusing to say the least. there is plenty of info if you can find it already written. maybe this will satisfy the forum mongers requirement of five posts to ask a question.
It also helps to keep the spammers corralled in one place and booted off the board before they do too much damage.
