i feel stupid asking this.

Hi Jerseyman ive been vaping a year now and using rdas once you have bought the initial rda are cheaper to run and more variable because the raw materials to build your own ciols are pennys or cents, as aposed to ready made coils at £3 or 5$ each.Plus and it is a plus you can build the ciols to how you prefer to vape giving you more flavour or throat hit plus numerous other variables you can go into .If you are going into rebuildable a single ciol RDA would be easiest and a good starter something like a kayfun or a Taifun tank rebuildable .Hope this helps

There are never any stupid questions on this site. If anyone says different they are wrong! We are here to help one another. Questions are for getting help. Good luck with whatever gear you choose and happy vaping friend :)

No, disagree.

I understand and agree with your philosophical viewpoint geared at education, but STILL, there ARE stupid questions Virginia,... there are.

Good thread, over the last 4 years I have exclusively used coils and disposables (Mini Novas, Gripper, Dual wick, single coil, dual coil, bottom feed, etc..) buying my first Kayfun to work with my ego-t style bat tonight after reading the positive experiences here. Hopefully the process of rebuilding will lead to increased savings and flavor.

IMO a decent 30W box mod will be useful for most RBAs. The new ipv mini would fit the bill nicely.

For a dripper, its hard to beat the Magma. I actually prefer it with a single coil. Infinite makes a nice one (ok, they don't make it, they are a reseller to be technical).

For a tank, Lemo or EHPro kayfun would be my recommendations. Both are easy to learn and give good, consistant results.

You will need kanthal. I recommend 28 gauge. Later you might want some 26 gauge as well. An Ohmmeter. Rayon is great for wicking as its easier to work with than cotton. Something to wrap coils on like drill bits.

Picked up a Kayfun mini clone with a nano drop kit and a Kayfun Nano clone on Black Friday. I've watched online videos on how to rebuild so many times, figured even I could do it - the video on MadVapes for the EHpro Kayfun Nano is a great tutorial on how to build a coil. The place i picked up the mini built my first coil for me. I got 100 feet of 28g Kanthal from Lightning Vapes for $5 from amazon and a $3 bag of organic cotton at Walgreens so I could try it myself. Took me about a foot of Kanthal to get my first coil to work (test the resistance on my MVP) and it hits like a champ. Another foot of Kanthal and I've got them both down to 1.1-1.2 ohms. Both work perfectly on my MVP or my twist batteries right about 3.4-3.6V. I figure between the Kanthal and cotton I have enough to make coils for both tanks for about a year - all for $8. Beats the heck out of $3 a pop for my coils for my Kanger and Aspire tanks. And the flavor on these two tanks is so much better than the others. I don't plan to sub-ohm and I'm not a cloud chaser. I like flavors and this really brings it out nicely.

I use 3mm silica in my kayfuns. It takes a few minutes to build as I'm working on micro coils. One thing nice about rebuildables is they last. Most are ss and will last a long time. I think this video is good and easy for someone just starting out. If I can do it anyone can. You can use any number of different wicks and the kanthal wire of choice. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PT2bkmsNVmI

Another question im embarrassed to ask, what is the differance between a mvp and a billet box clone? Can i put a tank on the billet box? I saw it takes cartos i still dont know what they are..any help is appreciated

The Billet Box, I just learned a couple days ago, has the cartotank inside the box with the batteries, it's all-in-one, the only thing sticking out from it is a driptip; and a Billet Box uses removable batteries, 2 of them, an odd size that I don't recall right offhand. 16340 maybe. The MVP is just a battery, and you recharge the whole thing, and when that battery finally dies, you throw the whole thing out.

I dunno if a tank of any kind can be put on a billet box, I'm still learning about those; I know there is a clone billet box and its major selling point other than the lower price is that you *can* put a tank or RDA on top, it's got some kind of adapter.

First get whatever Variable device you want.
All VV/VW devices have lower Voltage/wattage and a top V/W, also will only fire down to a certain ohm rating. and you have to build within those limits. to help you chose which device you want go to Steam Engine | free vaping calculators At the top pic the tab that is mod range. In the drip down box pick what ever mod to see there specs. Also read this blog E-Cigarette Forum - rusirius - Blogs it has a lot of info. This is my 2 cents.

I switched to RBAs mainly because buying replacement clearo heads was like playing the lottery and I figured I could do a better job myself. Also there was only plastic clearos back then. I prefer steel and glass tanks.

Seems like there's better clearos out there now and a wider variety to choose from. If I was to start fresh right now, I'm not sure if I would have ended up with rebuildables for any other reason than "ooh haven't tried one of those before".

I also prefer having 50+ meters worth of Kanthal over stocking a boxful of replacement heads for various atties that may or may not be of interest in a few months. Wire + wick is universal. Also import regulations make it sort of expensive to get new heads. Either many small orders and shipping, or one bulk order with lots of taxes and fees.

In the end you will find RBAs, and high wattage mods, and be done with spinners and aerotanks..... used to spend 20-30 a month on boxes of kanger coils, now can last on about a bucks worth of rebuildable material, and blow 10x larger clouds with 10x more flavor. Plus you can build the coils to any spec you want, pull them out and build new ones, or just pull out the wick and re-wick it to use even longer. I'm a flavor chaser, and love my 100 watt sigelei box at 30 watts or so, and have several rolls of wire, and a big bag of organic cotton to build 100s of wicks...... in the end it's much better to build your own.

Definitely agree on the much betterness of building your own coils. Kayfun's vape is the best I've tried, it's perfect; the coils in both of mine have been in there since late July, and still going strong. I just put a new wick in, every now and then, and I've gotten to the point that I can drain the tank, do the rinse, dry-burn, rewick, and refill, in less than 10 minutes -- maybe less than 5 if I was really rushed.

But I do love my cartotank; that's a real winner in the "easy" department too, and I think I'm going to get one of those carto punchers so I can start punching my own cartos, save some money -- always best to economize on the consumables.
