I got it off ebay for £8, i sort of got the idea that it could be fake for that price but it works fine so im going to use it, but i have heard stories about how fake batteries blow up, is that true?

Here is how it looks.

Most of the fake cells blowing up are removable type rechargables used under high power stress or shorting out. What happens is the cell inside the fakes isnt really rated to handle the load of the real cells.

In most cases ego style/sealed batteries like yours when they are knock offs work fine. When they do fail its 90% chance it was the cheap charger that did it.

But remember ANY battery can fail, doesnt matter if its a cell phone or an rc drone.

There is an Old Say'n... "If something's price is Too Good to be True, it probably Is."

I'm not a Big Believer in buying things with batteries, or Batteries themselves, on e-Bay. Yes, you can get some Deals on Genuine Batteries. But those Deals are So Out Numbered by the shear volume of Cheap, Low Quality, Knock-Offs.

I think it is Smarter to just Spend a Few Extra Pounds and buy Batteries from a Trusted e-Cigarette Hardware source. Thank it is to save a little and buy Batteries off e-Bay.

I am curious as to why you think it is a fake. It looks authentic to me. I don't think you have to be overly concerned about this type of battery blowing up as long as you use the proper charger for it.
The real spinner ll is 25-35 bucks. Fasttech sells clones for 8-15 US dollars ( less for bulk), I would imagine at roughly 12 bucks american thats probably where the ebay seller is getting them.

But in the end I have some clone egos that ran forever.

It might be a clone but cloned batteries don't just blow up for no reason, and those same cells that they use in cloned Spinners are more than likely the same cells they use in authentics.

I'm not saying go out and buy a clone, but you're far more likely to have problems with a fake 30amp Sony VTC4 than a Spinner battery. Chances are the fake Spinner cell is the same one used in the original while the fake Sony cell is not.

I have two cheap spinner II batteries. One from amazon one from eBay. Weirdly both sellers vanished right after I bought from them. Both batteries started going weird on me. They would auto for a second or 2 after turning them off? Needless to say I retired them after that happened a few times.

Did real spinners ever have spring loaded center pins? One had it one didn't.

Looks like my Vision Spinners that I have here.
Even if it was a clone, the battery is probably the same
in a clone versus the real thing. As indicated, they take
shortcuts on other stuff with the device - such as cheap
aluminum threading that will probably strip in a couple
of months time (I put an adapter on it stat), or wobbly
buttons etc. Recently I had a clone that first the little
wheel that you adjusted volts would stick and I needed pliars
to change the voltage. Soon after that it stopped holding
a charge (lasted about six months, rip). But highly unlikely
to blow up if you use a proper charger on it, clone or no clone.

How would you know if it has the same battery in it? the website that sells the real one says it takes about 5-6 hours to charge so if my fake one has the same battery in it then it should also take the same mount of time to charge?

So for the guys who have a real one is it 5 hours? i will then time the charge on mine.

You cannot definitively tell anything by charge time. That will depend not only on the Discharge of the Battery, but the actual output of the Charger.

Would it not be more logical to simply use the battery, charge safely(solid, flame resistant surface) and see how well it functions?

I have NEVER read a report of one of this style battery Exploding during use. It is always a Charging failure.
    Never charge over night
    Never charge unattended
