So there we were, enjoying a band at a local hangout and one of the bouncers taps me on the shoulder and gives me the "follow me" gesture. We got to a place where we could talk and he goes "What is that you keep inhaling?" I showed my eGo to him, explained what it was and even had a Freedomsmoke business card on me that I gave him. He was fine with it and just kind of nodded and walked away.

I got a kick out of that....no idea if somebody complained or he just noticed me blowing "smoke".

They are being accepted more and more me thinks :) last week I had to go to a building with security where they check your belongings. I had my PV in my purse - eG0 mega batt with a MAP tank on it - and as he discovers it in there, the look on his face was a bit priceless (at least to me) as he at first used one finger to sort of move it around a bit like it had cooties, then there was a brief look of fear then he recovered and asked, what is that? (without touching it any further or taking it out) I explained it was an electronic cigarette and immediately all was well as he said oh cool! I havent seen one like that before!

I think we should all start using the term "personal vaporizer" or anything other than a description with the word "cigarette" in it as much as possible. The farther we get away from that association, the better.

I really agree with this tactic. As soon as I say e-cigarette, most people associate it as a way to smoke tobacco electronically.

So true. I just started vaping but I will definitely be telling people its a personal vaporizer. I feel like people will assume its for medical purpose before thinking it has anything to do with tobacco products. Im interested to see how this interaction goes as I encounter it...

I'm going to play devil's advocate here, not just for the sake of argument, but because I feel there is a fundamental flaw in the attitude of some of us using an e-cig/PV. A quick analogy: I can fart or burp or laugh loudly in public, at any time. There are no laws that specifically forbid such behavior, but is it appropriate to fart/burp/laugh loudly anywhere, at any time? If you were eating at a restaurant, would you consider it ok for me to walk up and fart near your table? There are no laws that specifically forbid it, and if I continued such behavior you'd probably take action against it.

Just because you can use an e-cig anywhere, doesn't mean that it's always appropriate to do so. Not going to lecture much on common courtesy here, but it seems that some of you guys feel a sense of entitlement to vape anywhere, at any time and get some sense of satisfaction for doing it around those that disapprove of it.

It may only be "water vapor" that you exhale, but people can smell it. It'd be like eating at a restaurant while someone next to you sprays, continuously, excessive amounts of perfume on themselves. It's not illegal, but it sure would be annoying.

I love vaping, I'm glad I quit regular cigarettes and wish my cig smoking friends would switch as well. I don't need to tell you guys that the anti-tobacco elements in the US can and will act to outlaw anything tobacco related, lets not fuel the fire. The last thing we need is some heavy-handed law coming down on e-cig usage.

Be smart, be courteous, no reason to fart at the table just because you can.

Mike, you make a good point, but some of us initially bought into the idea of vaping because of ads like "smoke anywhere", after feeling like second-class citizens as smokers. If I'm in a restaurant and there aren't people at the tables immediately around me, I'll vape as much as I feel like, but in a more crowded atmosphere, I'll either limit myself to the occasional puff or even get up and go to the front of the restaurant - people waiting to be seated might be in my cloud, but the staff at these places seem to appreciate my explanation that "it's an electric cigarette, so there's no second hand smoke or anything like a real cigarette, but some people think that it's rude to use it around people who are eating", and give them the "I don't get that, whatever" shrug.

I think there is a "middle ground" that we should follow. First and foremost, be respectful but be prepared to educate any and all about vaping. I am firmly AGAINST those who state we should only vape where the smokers, smoke. If we ACT like vaping is the same as smoking, then it will RIGHTFULLY be perceived as just as dangereous as smoking and should be banned. I think using good common sense, such as Codex's example, is a good idea. I vape in a resturant but tell the waiter or manager first what it is and I don't blow plumb's of vaper. Most people don't even notice. I also believe it is a benefit that I don't use PV's that look like analogs. I hope the time comes when most PV's don't look like analogs to further distance ourselves from smokers and our past.

I agree with the middle ground:) If we vape in the open there will be more opportunities to educate the public:) If I am asked not to vape somewhere, I don't. But if we don't vape in public, and I agree there are places not to do it, or do it covertly, most people are amazed at the lack of smell in my experience:vapor:

We definitely need a designated farting area outside. Way to many stealth farters sneaking around. And maybe we need to force the people that burp and laugh too loud to go outside to the same area.
