Joking aside for a second....

TV's (the old cathode tube types) can hold a charge even when unplugged. And, if not dealt with properly, can shock your .... across the room or worse. Just FYI for fellow aquarium nuts.

What if it's been sitting unplugged for 10 years?

Maybe you (or someone on exf) can fix the table in e background, it's falling apart. btw, I just snapped this a min ago from ipad, sry bout mess 'n quality, not meant as vape porn

I'd have to evaluate the table in person (or see much more detailed pictures), but if you just want it to be functional (as opposed to an antique accent piece) repairing little things like that isn't hard. Power drill (you will probably have to drill new holes); small screws; possibly new pieces of wood for the underside of the shelf/drawer/whatever it is, it's likely warped; wood glue; clamps (it depends); sandpaper; paint. Or - take your lady thrift store shopping, it's fun!

Tru dat---happened to my BF when he tried to (of all things) connect two coaxial cables. Made him shoot backwards about 6 feet, and bloodied up his fingertips. He actually went to the ER via 911 for monitoring. Very scary!

Probably OK. But research "discharging" to be safe.

Capacitors hold the charge...but they "leak" slowly...eventually the charge will be evened out (AKA...no charge). But still...be safe. If you plug it in again...(MAY have to turn it on) ....it will charge up...so that's bad.

It's not that easy ocey, the table is very mysterious, the top actually is supposed to raise up unvieling a hidden compartment for firearms and studf. It's all held together by fancy things and hinges and what-not. Those magazines for example are load bearing magazines, if I remove them the whole thing falls apart.

You could make a fish tank out of it!

Sorry, no.

ETA: I just wish I could get rid of the tv itself. I think it was one one of the last large, big-backed tvs and it probably weighs more than I do. It dominates a whole corner of the room because I can't move it.

I am always LATE to the party....

I had the exact same problem (well, I probably outweighed it, but it's close). So ...I donated it to charity. TWO guys came over and hauled it out the door for free. (And it took two too).

Oh well, bummer. My motto is "I can't break it worse," but sometimes I underestimate what I'm dealing with. I was trying to fix my garage door opener and it made a big thunking sound, so I had to call a repairman. He freaked. Apparently people have been severely injured doing what I did - but, like, duh! I would never unbolt something that is obviously under tension while facing it.

After the smoking monkey was flamed by a bunch of idiots (newbies) for trying to be the voice of reason, I went on my usual articulate rant and said I thought the OP was ignorant and wanted to inflame people. (OP referred to the smoking primate as a "SPY" and kept raging until the monkey got PO'd and said she was rude. She kept referring to everybody as an "ahole" and screaming about her right to vape in people's faces because she was the ROSA PARKS of vaping.) MORE sane posters came in and said slow your roll, etc. and join the CASAA if she is so passionate, etc. She poohed on them, too. Classy came in and told us all to "play nice." She yelled back at Classy that I should be banned or something because I violated the rules by calling her an ignorant zealot. I actually LEFT and stopped replying. She kept trolling on and on about blowing "smoke" in children's faces, etc. Thread disappeared. **POOF**
