OK. Joking aside, now. (and that's very hard for me to do)

I'm new here to your forum and a n00b to vaping to boot -- I just got my first e-cigs (a kit) last Friday, October 1, 2010 (mall kiosk). Actually two kits... one for me and one for my arch nemesis, i.e. wife.

I'm struggling a bit with ditching the analogs all together. So is the Mrs., actually. I'm know I'll have questions, but I'm trying to read a lot before asking so as not to repeat questions already asked and answered. (With the huge volume of info here, I can't really believe EVERY possible question hasn't probably already been discussed to death.) Searching is a bit of a pain since I'm getting tons of hits (no pun intended), for just about every search terminology I try and filtering them to figure out the one that gets me the exact solution(s) I'm after is a bit of a challenge. That's not a forum fault, nor anyone's fault, its just a big-... forum to digest.

OK. That's done. Four more to go.

Tim

P.S. Nice forum architecture!

Welcome to the world of insanity! There is a ton of info on this site to sift through and trying to find the answers to your questions isn't always easy. Don't feel bad if you can't find the answers you're looking for and have to ask. I've seen so many repeated questions and not one reply of, "Go look for it yourself you idiot" LOL They may direct you to the right locations to find your answers and provide links but so far as I've seen, everyone has done it with respect. I think it's due to everyone having a million and one questions when they first start out and can't find the answers.

Hi! Welcome to the forum. What kind of e-cig did you and the old lady end up with? (btw: a lot of seasoned vapers hang around the new members forum too, so if you have a question you can still ask it here :) )

Hi Rosa,

It's called a Fifty-One Duo -- I think. The propaganda says the kiosk is owned by Smokes 51 or Vapor Corp., depending on what booklet you read (one of their handouts also says www.eCigarettesoutlet.com, but that is a defunct website). Maybe they changed names or went out of business and back in. IDK. (Or they could be a safe haven for extremist, Muslim terrorists; however, the fellow said he was from India upon my shrewd, close interrogation of him concerning this matter and I believe him. Don't worry. I shall keep a watchful eye on the place.) The kit is kinda' like this: Fifty-One Starter Kits

I didn't pay that $179.95 price for each of the kits. I'm not an idiot. I got two for $290 -- but, but, but, but I got a Membership Card (woot!!). (Yeah, I know. You can slap me silly now.) I had read this forum to death Wednesday and Thursday last week. I called a couple local smoke shops, but couldn't find anyone selling e-cigs around here. One shop said they thought there were kiosks at the various malls. I read here about going to a kiosk to 'try' e-cigs. What can I say. We were within a couple miles of the Dayton Mall last Friday afternoon (we seldom are near any of the malls), and I talked the Mrs. into "walking around a bit."

I really didn't care about the price. I just wanted to get something and start venturing into vaping. I guess that is what I got ... something. I guess I could have done worse, as I do see potential, but, obviously, I'm not terribly satisfied. Presently, I feel like I have to work through a good portion of the supplies we have (8, 6, and 4mg cartomiser packs), before mail ordering some of the other stuff that interests me. I've smoked a pretty fair number of cigars in my life (hobby somewhat... I've got a PDA app for cigar selection and rating them), and enjoy the different aromas and tastes. I'm pretty sure I'll end up with some juice lab or something in a spare closet -- yeah, you may have guessed that I'm a bit ..../obsessive/compulsive.

One thing I need to figure out is what threads are on these batteries I have, or what the compatibility is with other systems. If you or someone else knows, is there a comprehensive thread compatibility chart/spreadsheet of this info somewhere?

Also, any and all suggestions will be mucho appreciated!!!

Thx!

Tim

Welcome. Maybe the two of you aren't ready to give up analog's just yet? I smoked them for 2 weeks after I got my ecig in the mail. I had a goal to keep it to 2 per day and almost blew it when hubs was fired from his job but I persevered and I've been analog free now for over 4 weeks. It takes awhile for your atomizer's to break in and more time for your juice to age so its a bit tricky at the start. Your taste buds will start to change so don't toss those juice's that you don't like right now; give it time. You will find many pluses in the long run, just don't rush it.

Start building your post count so you can post pictures! Go to lots of different threads and start posting.

Hey fellow Ohioan. I'm up in the Akron area. I started on a mall e-cig too. I quickly moved on to the 510, then an eGo. But the mall e-cig got me off the analogs. It was an RN 4081. You can look at the pictures here RN 4081 and see if it's the same atty and battery. If you're ever in my part of the state VaporBomb.com is located here, they just opened a storefront with a vape lounge. They hand mix their juices too. Since you're relatively close, if you order online you should get your stuff in a couple of days. They always have a flavor of the week for $10. Well, if you have any questions post back. There's a lot of knowledgeable people here just waiting to answer some questions.

I think the smoke 51 duo is an e9 / kr808d-2 type(Note NOT the kr808d-1). Not too common but I think lecig has something that will fit at a lower price. Use it for a while and get some juice to use ( if 8 mg is the highest you have that may be why you still need the analogs (regular cigs)). Most would suggest 18 to 24 mg to start with. Get small sample size juice in various flavor and strenghts (error on the high side as you can cut it down with weaker juice or plain vg or pg) from s few vendors to see what you like and the strengh that you need.

Welcome!

I don't know anything about them really, but I believe that smoke 51 duo is a v9. Others will correct me if I'm wrong. I know nothing of compatibility.

If smoking for you was simply a hobby, and you didn't smoke much at all, the 8mg cartridges may do okay for you. Personally I wouldn't even have a light smoker start off on less than 16 mg if they were nicotine dependent enough to even need something like this. From what I know of the v9's, you will probably get frustrated with short battery life and cartridges that just don't last long at all.

My own personal recommendation is not one that I like to make, but since I know nothing about the v9 I'm going to make it.

All e-cigs are disposable anyway. Batteries die and atomizers die. You might play around with what you have while it's new to you, and eventually step up to something like a 510 or an ego. I won't lie to you. If you stick with this long enough and hand around these forums, you're probably going to end up caring less and less about the cigarette look and end up with a mod. Batteries just get wayyyyy to frustrating.

Anyway, I hope I haven't demoralized you yet. What you have has officially broken you into the wonder world of personal vaporizers and therefore is worth every penny. Just don't forget that if you get frustrated, it doesn't necessarily mean vaping is not for you, it just means you have not found the right e-cig/nicotine combination for you. I personally vape 36mg but I was/am a heavy smoker. Others seem fine with 24 or 16mg.

Edit. Petem beat me to it. I guess thats what I get for taking to long to post. I thought they were called v9's, he says e9, appears to know more about them than me but I'm not gonna go back and change it, I'll just stay wrong.

First, I want to thank EVERYONE for all the replies, encouragement and suggestions!

Hey cskent,

It kinda' looks the same to me, but I'm not familiar enough yet with the different threads to know what subtle differences I might be looking for.

I can't get a real great close-up picture of the connections for what I bought at the mall kiosk with my camera. Can you tell from either of these pics if they are the same connections as you mentioned, or something else?

threads016 (Small).jpg (even larger when clicked but blurrier)

I bookmarked VaporBomb link you gave me and will put their info in my PDA.

Thx again!

Tim, it looks like there is nothing compatible with your batts. Looking at the Fifty-One web site the replacement atomizer page states:

Note: This item is only compatible with Red line Components, denoted by the color of the “Trio” imprint on your battery – Red “Trio” = Red line components.

I did the same thing when I started with a Red Dragon package it turned out to be a bust and I wound up with about 20 cartomizers that I could not use. I spent about $30.00 searching for an adaptor to use them on a 510 with no luck so I pitched the cartos just to end my frustration.
Any way don't be afraid to ask questions here this is a great group of people and they will support and help more than any other group I have ever been involved with. I have not been a member here that long but it is the first site I go to when I boot my computer in the morning. It has even got me off the ......... circuit.
And welcome to the world of vaping and enjoy all the info here.
