For those who might not know, Kaiser is the largest managed care organization in the U.S. today, with 9 million members. I got this email today, so I'm sure it went out to all 9 million of their other members. It's just a continuation of the bad publicity already out there, but it's really disheartening to see them appeal like this to all their members. Here's the link (disgusting!):

I've never liked kaiser and refuse to sign up with them even though it would save me about $300/month on my insurance premiums. The fact that they would use outdated information, misinterpreted studies, and out and out lies in one of their health promotions just reaffirms that decision.

I hate it, too. They're still recycling that 2009 FDA dishonest junk study (anti-freeze) that produced a scolding from federal court.

It's a scam to extract higher premiums from us, and adherence to BP and BG's plans for extorting more money from us. My insurance company charges me smoking rates for my vaping. Big time corruption, pure and simple.

Neither Patch nor lozenge nor Buprophion worked for me. Vaping worked for me even when I did not want to quit for health reasons, but to save money.

Ditto all that, but it worked for me when all I wanted was a way to "smoke" indoors -- total surprise it would actually WORK -- unlike everything from BP! -- to allow me to quit smoking!

Idiots. :-x

I was with Kaiser for 11 years, dropped them in December of last year, when my former employer started offering COBRA coverage for SIMNSA in Mexico, at 1/3 the cost in premiums ...

Kaiser neurologists had prescribed a medication for my Parkinsons symptoms that caused frequent episodes of temporary vision loss, not a good thing to happen when driving. With Kaiser I was charged a $40 copay for a 15 minute consultation. With SIMNSA I get an hour or more for $7, and prescriptions for $10. My neurologist in Mexico found a medication that works for me, no noticeable side effects and a considerable improvement in symptoms. They also did a complete cranial MRI, which you see in my avatar. Yes, that's my brain. Cool, huh ?

I'm not at all surprised that Kaiser has come out as anti-vaping, with misleading and debunked propaganda ...

My hope is that someday, when vaping is formally vindicated, these organizations that demonize vaping will be exposed as obstructionists who acted with highly unethical disregard for their patient's well-being ...

But I suspect they will all just claim that they responded with the information available "at the time" ...

I swear, everytime I read that brainless "there's no proof that it can actually help you quit smoking." Ohhh, I guess that must be... why it helped me quit smoking! It's a done deal! GEEZ! SMH SMH SMH

From their text: (my bold and underline)

"Evidence shows the most effective way to quit is to use a combination of FDA-approved medications (like the nicotine patch, gum, lozenge, or bupropion) and counseling support. Choose what works for you: Kaiser Permanente’s Wellness Coaching by Phone, tap into the power of a group in a Health Education stop smoking class, or try the online, self-paced program called HealthMedia® Breathe.(TM) - See more at: http://partnersinhealth.kaiserperma...-cigarettes-nat-june2015#sthash.L8JAxzdS.dpuf"

OMG! Do you guys actually pay that much extra in "taxes" to get health care? My monthly premium (that my employer actually pays) is like $79 for a single person - and not too much more if you happen to have a family of four.

Yes. My husband's workplace offers KP, but we can't afford it; it would cost more than 6% of his income, therefore we didn't have to pay that asinine "penalty" for not being insured -- we got the exemption, so we didn't have to pay MORE for not having enough to pay for insurance. What total boobs they are.

I currently pay around $14k in premiums, for myself, my wife and one child. That is in addition to the $12k employer contribution.

Oh, it is well above 6% for me, but after years my wife and I have finally found specialists that we like and that actually understand and work with us, so we pay.

It used to be less, my company used to do 70/30, then they went to a private marketplace format...
