It depends on what ohms you build the coils to. With a 20W (not 20V, 20V is quite a lot of voltage) iStick, you can't really go lower than ~1 ohm.

I'd suggest building the Orchid V4 to about 1.2-1.8 ohms (meaning 2x 3 ohm coils, so you're either going to need some THICK gauge or a lot of wraps). You'll get a warm vape at about 9-12W, and the Orchid wicks pretty well, so you should be able to get a flavorful yet hot vape at 20W (or it'll just burn your cotton, but that really depends on your build).

Your right it is 20w I don't know what I was thinking lol. So since the istick is vv/vw would that effect how many wraps ? And where would I find how many wraps or how thick wire ?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought thicker gauge equated to lower resistance. So if you're saying that they'll need high resistance to pull this off, wouldn't that imply a thinner gauge of wire (and/or extra wraps), instead of thicker as you've implied?

To clarify, what diameter should his coil be?

To get 1.3 ohms, should be wrapped on something 3/32" and legs no longer than 1/8". but with an Orchid, legs can't be long anyways, just no room.

At 4 volts, that equates to about 12 to 13 watts to fire it.

You said Nickel? is the wire pure Nickel??? If it is, don't use it!! But then you said kanthal. The two are different I beleive
i am on fasttech and the wire i was looking at says kanthal A1 nickel resistence but if you go down to the description it says product type nickel so im not sure i never made a build before.

If it says 30AWG or 0.25mm then it's the right stuff. Are you buying it at the same time as the Orchid?

You know, as much as I hate to say this.... if you are confused about wire and stuff, the Orchid is probably NOT as good a place to start compared to a Kayfun clone or similar single coil... especially not for an iStick. I built mine for fun to run on the iStick. For serious use, it's going on another sort of mod altogether.

so for a first time builder i should look into a kayfun clone or a single coil build? someone refered a few things to me on one of my other threads so i thought id try it.

EDIT: so i came across a kayfun lite plus V2 clone thoughts on that?

Well, I have 2 of the Kayfun lite V2 clones (not from Fasttech, but the same) and they see much more use than the Orchid. Far more user friendly. It's essentially the same 'building' process, but one coil makes life so much easier and far more sensible for mid-range mods.

Search for this catalogue number.

FASTTECH SKU 1700500
