So, sometime last evening, somebody threw a switch and I had insomnia. And have been jittery like on a caffeine "buzz" all day long.

My neurotransmitters are having an all out tantrum...

You have my deepest sympathies on the insomnia. I have figured out that I have managed a grand total of 11 hours sleep in the last 6 days. I figure when the crash comes it will be a doozy.

When I first started I was tired allllll the time! It lasted for a couple of weeks. It took me a bit to figure out what was going on. I also had really bad night sweats too. Although I don't know if it was related but it stopped after the sleepiness went away. Same thing as well with the teeth. I'd had a cavity that wasn't bothering me & apparently it had something to do with the smoking. It's amazing what was suppressed from all of those stinkeys! I would however...like to give back the ability to smell everything! And I do mean everything! I work with the public & had never noticed other people's BO too much! Now it's insane!!!!!

I am 7 months quit, and vaping makes me drowsy.

The problem with many of these posts is that they are all anecdotal. What I can't figure out is that there are like 100,000 members coming and going over the life of this board, and very little actual medical information posted or provided. Seems to me that this is like a captive audience here, yet nobody seems to be studying us.

It also seems that a lot of vapers simply do not go to the doctor, have regular tests, bloodwork, etc. to provide hard science on things that change (lung xrays, bloodwork, and testing on skin conditions etc. that seem to pop up in some people.) when they quit smoking and take up vaping. They have no hard copy earlier profiles to compare to.

Therefore, I read these posts and they are always anecdotal and filled with "guesswork".

I don't think the vaping frontier is going to advance much w/out some hard science, but that is just my opinion.

Each individual is an individual, with a different metabolism, and there is no way to know for sure what is going on inside YOUR body without testing that show values, etc. You could be tired because you're vitamin deficient.

My situation is a little different. I "do" have symptoms (skin, digestive, tiredness) and I do plan on having these things evaluated and compared to my profile on file BEFORE I started vaping. And in my case, my medical providers do have these earlier profiles.

My doctor is not against vaping, but admits he has no real first hand hard information about it....from his own patients.....but is also interested in knowing what some of the pitfalls are so that he can advise his other patients should they decice to begin vaping..

I don't know what gets discussed on the medical forums since i am not licensed in the medical field, so I can't go there. :)

I can tell you for sure that I will not be vaping any kind of dyes, food coloring or anything else my doctor deems not entirely safe for my lungs, esp. my damaged lungs, as you are going to have to assume some damage has taken place IF you ever smoked, even short term. So he and I have discussed these things already in detail.

There also don't seem to be many doctors who vape piping up in here as members? I've wondered about that, surely there are doctors who vape and can provide information to us as fellow members just as part of the casual conversations we engage in here? Are there any?

And now, I'm not sure cigs nor vaping nor quitting cigs nor anything like that had much of anything to do with it!

This weird weather we've been having, the pollen count has been off the charts. I have allergies. And am prone to sinus infections. Which can often be on the mild side. That is, vaguely but not terribly "feverish" and cause major drowsy. And have an inner ear that's been a pain in the keester since I was a kid. Gives me dizzy spells sometimes when the sinuses act up.

All the times I've tried to quit, I never had a situation where I couldn't be sure whether what I was feeling was "withdrawal" or just allergies. That, in itself, is pretty freaking awesome. Never had a "quit" attempt where I wasn't absolutely clear on the withdrawal symptoms. They were too big and too horrific to mistake for anything else...

When I cut nicotine I was sleeping less, although I had fatigued moments but more on that in a bit. When I was smoking I was constantly waking up for a cigarette. When I switched to pipe tobacco once I eventually lost that waking up for a nic fix thing.

When I cut nicotine it allowed an Ulcerative Colitis flare I was in the process of get bad enough to finally get diagnosed. Nicotine helps UC. After I was finally diagnosed I increased my nicotine higher than I started vaping at. I started really sleeping. Plus there's a fatigue thing that goes along with IBD that comes and goes.
The fatigue and comatose sleeping can be a lot of things. As you noted, allergies, although that tends to wake me up because I can't breath and then take the allergy meds. As I found out, IBD. Plus nicotine seems to put me to sleep, although some claim it stimulates. If it is not an unrelated issue my guess would be an increase in nicotine intake either by having more in the liquid or vaping more to make up for the missing of the other things in cigarettes.

As far as the teeth go, I seem to recall something about PG being very willing to seep into every crack possible. I think you mentioned root canal, which unless it was a failed root canal would mean a gum issue. But nerves are odd things, it could be something with a surrounding tooth. If it's gums, as my cleaning lady would say - even when gum issues were made worse from the IBD drugs, brush more. Actually before I went on the IBD drugs she was impressed with the change vaping brought.

I work nights because an alarm cannot wake me!

My alarm can. I had a problem of sleeping through my alarm so I decided to make one that is not possible to sleep through.

It consists of a 12v, 5 AMP power supply (from a monitor), a digital wall/lamp timer, and a 5 AMP car horn from a Honda. It's not pretty but I can guarantee you will not sleep through it. Neither will your neighbors.

Edit: I can give you a parts list, suppliers and instructions if you want. I think the total cost was about $35 if I remember right.

Im a few days short of 3 months. Lately, as in the past two weeks, i've been extremely tired...all the time.
Even after getting a full night of sleep, waking up feeling well rested, a few hours later and all I want to do is crawl back into bed.

I suppose it could be the lack of caffeine in my system, as my increase in water intake has allowed less room for soda/coffee/red bull(i know i know)

Going to try adding a cup of coffee in the mornings, or mid-day and see if it helps. Hopefully, as stated before, this is just a side effect of quitting, and passes soon. I get stuff done because I have to, but otherwise I dont want to do anything but sleep.

That's exactly what happened to me. Slept great. Better than in years. But was just a zombie. Sleepy all freaking day long. Just wanted to nap the day away. It didn't last long. Fortunately. But it drove me nuts for a few days. Still not sure if it was a sinus thing or the whole thing of switching from cigs to vaping.

I've had to readjust my caffeine. My metabolism was just all over the place for a while it seemed. Couldn't fall asleep but when I did, slept like the dead and felt good in the morning. Then suddenly couldn't seem to wake up. Then... I dunno. Went to decaf then, lately, went up to half caf coffee. Don't drink as much coffee as I used to either. Don't ask me why. It's not just the need to drink more water, it's just... not drinking as much coffee. Which could have contribute to the zombie week.

My "schedule" (physically speaking) is still "off". Like my body's clock is screwy. But it's been leveling off.

Still, been quite the roller coaster. Right before all that, I had tons and tons of energy and couldn't sit still. Then couldn't move. Crazy stuff.

Then again, all the chemicals and crap in cigs, this really is a big change. I guess it's to be expected that your body has a lot of adjusting and adapting to do?
