so today i made my first coil! i wraped 32 guage kanthal wire across as drill it i used the next size up from 1/16 so i could make a larger coil. six wraps around and i was 2.5 ohms. however say i wanted a 1.5 ohms coil and it only requires two wraps around the bit(for the sake of conversation). is this safe? do more coils equal more safety or is 1.5 ohms 1.5 ohms regardless of how many times its wrapped around the bit

It should be safe. I prefer 1.5 builds. 1.5 is 1.5. It's the diameter of the coil that is going to change.
I don't like to have less than five coils in my wraps. Maybe try your wrap on something smaller. I just feel like I'm getting a better vape with more coil touching the wick.
I've only been wrapping for a few weeks so I'm still a "newbie" lol

The results with 1.5 only differ in wire gauge(no effect on safety). A 32 gauge will make less contact with the wick than a 28 gauge coil of the same ohms and heat up more(there are equations for this). So ohms aren't truly equal if wire size is different. I prefer the larger gauges for my coils (more amps involved though). Just be sure your batteries and device are up to the coils you choose to use.

You might have a hard time getting to 1.5 with the 32 ga. You could probably do it with just a few wraps, but that will probably be a pretty bad coil for any kind of vapor production. You might pick up some 30 ga and/or 28 ga. Will make your life easier for lower ohms. And you might as well, cause you're probably hooked now. I can get to 1.5 with the 30 ga, seems like about 6 wraps on a 1/16th bit. That's what I have in my ProTank 2 right now and it vapes really well. Alternatively, you could twist your 32 ga, effectively halving your resistance, but I wouldn't go there yet. Keep it simpler for now while you get it dialed in.

Edited for brain f**t.

Safety wise sure, it's fine. The problem is if you have too few wraps then you have less surface area of the coil touching the wick to convert juice to vapor. If you have too many wraps you can get dry hits from the center of the coil if the wick can't replenish all the way before you fire again.

Personally I try to have 6-8 wraps per coil. IMHO that is the sweet spot for surface area. In order to get the resistance you want and stay within the 6-8 wraps you have to adjust your wire gauge and/or the diameter of your coil. This is exactly what the Vaper's toolbox is designed to help with. You can use it to "theory craft" your perfect coil. Play with the wire gauges, resistance levels, coil diameters and when you get it exactly how you want it, then you know how to build it.
