Hard to find smooth rods, I have seen some in the DIY RC models but always in bulk

On ebay they sell sets of metric drill bits that fit on my Jig and work fine to set up my coils, wish I could cut them down so they did not have the "screw part " but they work.

Here is another.

I found them searching for micro drill bit sets.

100mm seems pretty long. I need it to be able to sit in the coil for mounting.

Edit: I did the conversion, it is 3 inches. Hmm. Still too long?

I use drill bits in those sizes. They are about 2 1/2 inches long and about half of that is smooth (no helix). They work very well for me, from wrapping through mounting. I have drill sets in inch and numbered so I already have them. You can cut them shorter with a Dremel and a cut off wheel, or a bench grinder.

You can get dowel pins in 2.5 and 3 mm diameter. Max length in 2.5 mm is about 1" and 3 mm about 2". McMaster Carr has them in their catalogue but they sell in bags only. I know a couple of fastener shops locally that sell individual items like that (drills also). I would find dowels too short to work with for this application without a holder though.

Appropriately sized precision screw drivers work very well too. The set Hitmetwice linked to would be great.

Good luck with it!

The UD YouDE coil jig v3 has 4 sizes, it's a small kit I got I think for around $8.

2 2.5 3 3.5mm

I don't use the spinner thing it comes with as I just wrap around the shaft. Well, I use the spinner thing as a lid and it's a pretty small thing.

Here is a link to a post about it on this forum:

YOUDE nailed it! Coil winding jig Version 3

I use the above precision screwdriver set that I purchased for about $6 at Walmart. The drill bit diameter is on the handle of the screwdrivers. The largest are 2.5 and 3 mm.

^^^^This exactly! I have a few sets that I also picked up at Walmart, and they work great.
