I need some advice on reducing throat hit and greater plumes

Hello everyone I'll try to make this short. I tried vaping about a year ago with an evod starter kit. It was ok, but i craved a deep hit with a huge plume when I exhaled. I rarely was able to get a huge plume with the evod. For Christmas I bought a eLeaf iStick and a nautlus tank. I loaded it up with my favorite ejuice from a year ago (new order not 1 yr old ejuice) and took my first hit after a few primer puffs and letting sit in the tank for a bit. The ejuice is PG/VG 65/35 18 mg of nicotine. I smoke Marlboro ultra lights usually every our for a pack a day or so. Anyway, the first small hit about killed me in the throat. I tried iStick setting of 5W to 9W.

I think I have several problems going on here. First, my nicotine level is way too high. Second, I might need less PG and more of a VG mix. Any advice, am i on the right track. Any advice is appreciated. Oh, one last thing, I get great satisfaction out of big long hits that produce big plumes. I know plumes aren't everything but it does add psychologically to my experience.

Yep, lower your nic level to about half where you're at, and switch up your PG/VG mix, more VG less PG...

I used 12 and 18mg juices in my evods, when I switched to RDAs I had to cut back to 6mg, even 12 was too strong and would make my head spin after a few hits. I'd slowly switch up the PG/VG mix until you find your sweet spot, start with a 50/50 mix and then move to 40/60, then 30/70, etc.

i think you are moving in the right direction. any time you step up to a more efficient system you are receiving more nic in each draw. i had to step down from 12 mg to 4 mg when i started dripping. with a tank you are probably not going to want to go over 50%pg 50% vg or you will start having wicking issues. especially in cold weather, VG can be too thick. good luck.

Are you doing a lung inhale, or into the mouth first? That can make a BIG difference!

Also, the IStick runs hot. 5 watts on it might vape the same as 7 watts on a mod that uses RMS regulation. (Nobody has figured out why they used Mean...) So that could be part of the problem you're having. No real way around that, but it might not be as extreme when the battery charge falls off a bit...

While the niccotine level has an effect on throat hit and the pg/vg type does, I've also found that flavors have different throat hits.

I use three different flavors from a place called vapor4life.com. All three are the same nic level and pg/vg ratio, but they all have three different throat hits. The "ChocoCaramelPeanut" flavor has the smallest throat hit. Like, to the point where if my battery isn't set to 4.8 volts I barely feel it. The "Waffle" flavor has a little stronger throat hit and if I wanted to get the same hit I would lower the battery to about 4.2 volts. The "Caramel" flavor has by far the biggest hit and turning my battery down to 2.8v gives the same as the 4.8 choco flavor. (all 3 of them put out lots of vapor)

Unfortunately, this means you have to spend a lot of cash to figure out what your favorite type of flavor is, especially since there are so many of them. However, once you do you'll never crave a cig again.

i personally have came across that if you have a better or bigger airflow would helps on vapor/plume production as well, hopefully im not wrong about this.

Funny, I had the exact opposite feeling. For me I feel like when the airflow is lower I got better taste and better vapor but when the airflow is too airy I feel a stronger throat hit, worse taste and vapor production. I also think that tight airflow provides a more similar experience to smoke a real cigarette. By the way, I inhale to the mouth first so that can make a good difference.

Yes, I have found a flavor I like. It is a cinnamon flavor by Karma called Milk of the Gods and another local blend that tastes like Juicy Fruit gum. I seem to enjoy rotating both of these during the day. There is another I like that is a light desert flavor as well. I have not totally quit the analogs yet, but I'm down to about 8 a day and working on getting that number lower.

I'm mentally struggling with giving up the analogs 100% but with I think I'll get there.

I would give it a few days on your higher strength before dedicating yourself to lower nic. I did this after everybody recommended it and after still not being able to kick cigarettes after switching up strengths, flavors and VG, I just ended up with a bin full of useless juice.

So finally I went back up to my 24mg of Halo Voodoo and Midnight Apple. After toughing it out for four days with virtually no cigarettes, everything clicked. No unbearable throat hit, I was used to the vape and my throat had a little time to heal from the damage produced by cigarettes.

Now I'm on month three, still vaping 24mg like it's nobody's business and even purchased a higher wattage mod the other day which I'm currently using a Kayfun on built with a 1.2ohm microcoil which I'm vaping at 13 to 15 watts.

Now I'm not saying the information you are getting is wrong since were all different but for me, all I had to do was tough it out. The high nic juice made me not even really want a cigarette let alone 8. And I just came off of two packs a day.
