Is there a specified number of posts I need to put up a picture as an avatar? I couldn't find the spot in my profile and I did look through the new member info but did not find anything on this. Maybe I'm just really dumb

It doesn't say anything about avatars tho, so I really don't know . If I had to guess I would say 15 posts like the sig

I'd bet it is 5, but remember you have to wait until 20 after the hour for the system to update.

There is not a set number of post to have an avatar. The size is limited to 150 X 150 pixels or 5 KB.
I believe the avatar has to be either in jpg or gif format.

You will find the place to put your avatar up under "Settings". There will be a list to the left side. One of those will be "Edit Avatar". Play around in that list, it is interesting what you find.

I have made my profile page a little different than the norm.
