I have only been using my PV for a 24 hours and i am smoking less but i really still like the analogs. It seems i can't put down the PV or the analogs. Is this normal at first. I was hoping i was one of those people that never look back. But it doesn't seem to be the case with me.

I feel like i keep reaching for the PV for the nic and reaching for the analogs for something else that might be in them that i might be addicted to.

Okay, first what is/was your current smoking habit? Second what is the nicotine content in mg/mL of the juice you are using? Typically heavy smokers need at least a 24mg to get through. That said there seems to be a factor of 10 between the highest to lowest on nicotine tolerance.

Also yes there are several MAOI compounds in tobacco. They are likely addictive. Getting off of tobacco is not getting off of one drug, its more like getting off of 30 all at once, well with vaping one less.*

Also this is your first day. If you smoke half of what your normal habit is then that is a victory. What matters is not the cigarettes you smoke, but the ones you don't smoke.

[*note: that is at best a guess--I don't have the compounds list right in front of me.]

I can't really help you, as I'm new to all of this...but how much Nic is in your juice? From what I've been reading on here, most are saying that new users may need to start out using at least 24mg Nic to get satisfaction from vap at first. Also, it seems as if no one really just stops smoking real Cigs starting out. Most every one keeps smoking some for the first while.

Don't give up! Give your body time to adjust. Good Luck!!

Like most smokers you are hooked on the habbit aswell as the nic. The cigarett is what your brain and boddy are used to and know. Andtherefor craves. Once those two (boddy and brain) figure out that nic is nic, regardles of how it gets into your system, thecravings for the analog ciggs lessen. Atleast thats my theory, based on how it was/is for me.

Well yes there are quit a few things other than nicotine addicting in analogs but nicotine alone should cover that fine in most cases even though you'll never be same! You'll go through withdrawals and those symptoms will ease up then your have other symptoms you might blame on vaping which it may be but most likely not. Give it a few weeks and the symptoms change to good things, like breathing better feeling more stamina tasting and smelling things better. I remember a post they said they thought their vape was making their poop smell really bad. Most everybody had a lot of fun with that because it probably always did, they just opulent smell it as well. But seriously, there are alternatives to smoking like Swedish snus and nasal snuff and even chewing tobaccos if you can't stop reaching for a cigarette after a few weeks or Aroma Juice sells the famous WTA e liquid. Search it on ecf. Search them all. You might learn something surprising. The goal at first is anything but smoke. You can go where you need to eventually to feel better and maintain the healthier lifestyle.

Well the thing is switching is different for everyone. A 24mg might be far too much for someone who smoked 5 ultralights a day. But not enough for someone who smoked 3 packs of full flavors a day. Some people need to wean themselves off gradually, others lay the pack down and never pick it up again.

I know I may sound like a broken record but what matters is not the cigs that are smoked but those that are not.

This right here. Keep it up and eventually you won't like the real thing.

It took me a couple weeks to ween myself from the stinkies. It entailed making a conscious effort, at times, that, "I'm going to use THIS instead of THAT." The sensation, flavor and action CLOSELY mimic smoking, but is not 100% the same. It's only a minor difference. It IS inherently better after you find your groove, tho!

Set yourself a few small goals:

-Today, I smoked a full pack (20)... tomorrow, I'm only allowing myself 15

-Today, I only had 5... tomorrow, my goal is only to have that morning one, that sittin on the John one and that one before bed.

-Tomorrow morning, I'm going to wake up 5min early and try to burn the carto/atty by foregoing the morning smoke.

*these are just examples of the mindset you need to put yourself in to get past the black smoking death lungs.

it's the whole ritual of smoking that you probably miss also. what i did for the first couple weeks of vaping (and this may sound really stupid, but it worked for me)....is i went thru the motions of acting like i "lit" my ecig with a lighter, and even had an ashtray that i set it on and tapped it on as if i were tapping off an ash. hey, whatever works, right? good luck!

I ordered the 18 nic but i hated it and my friend ordered 16 nic players. Its ok but i am ordering the cotton candy and mixing somme blueberry in it as i hate the taste of the tobacco flavours. Which is weird but a good thing as when i light up an analog it taste kinda the same as the tobacco flavour juice. At the moment i am not truly enjoying either but the addiction keeps me running to both the pv and analogs. I don't inhale a whole lot at once because i start choking / coughing the vape. So i am assuming the 16 nic is high enough?

On a good not my husband is trying this out and has my second pv and he called home today to say to order more juice as he is liking the vape and only had one smoke since he started using the vape yesterday evening. He inhales this stuff no problem and we smoke about the same. A Pack to a pack and a half on some days.

I am looking at the positive that i am not smoking as much.

I had about half a pack left when I got my first e-cig. It took a few days of doing both to get me started. Once I ran out of smokes, I had no choice to make the e-cig thing work. After that it was easy for me.

But everyone is different, and if you smoke at first it's okay. Eventually you will find what works for you. You don't fail unless you quit trying.

I smoke for more than 14 years and smoking is already a lifestyle, it's part of my life. I switched to e-cig a year ago, going through: coming back to traditional ones and then to electronic ones, and then both, going round and round in my own cycle of addiction. What I miss the most in electric cigarettes is the habit to kick it and drop ash into the ashtray, and also the look of a burning cigarette, these are just visual effects I was addicted to. Now to compensate that I watch the fireplace

Finally at one moment I traveled to Thailand and took only my PV, my girlfriend was the one not to allow me to buy traditional pack of cigs. We were spending a great time, vacation was great and on this background I spent the whole month without smoking regulars. Since then i use only e-cig.

I enjoy vaping, but it was never the nicotine that kept me smoking. I can take or leave vaping & nic now. I do enjoy a little nic but don't feel as though I'm missing out when I don't have it. I definitely liked the WTA more. Vaping helped me quit, but it still wasn't totally easy because I always felt as though I was missing something. Even though I'm over smoking and have zero interest to ever do again and I hate the smell of smoke, every once in a while I still get a craving. Either way, vaping more definitely helps get through it, whatever the reason for being addicted to tobacco is be it the nic, WTA, or just the act of smoking.

16mg is a strange nic level. Of course you are also in Canada, they may have different standard levels than we do in the States. I've heard of people quitting at 18mg, so I know its not impossible (of course there are those who did it on 6mg too). If the 16 isn't cutting it on nic then you need to up the level. If you're feeling dizzy or nausious that might be an indication that the nic level is too high and you would need to lower it. Trying to translate from cigarette habit to e-juice is difficult and add to that the symptoms for nicotine over dose and nicotine withdrawal are similar makes figuring it out worse. And then get some juices you think you may like.

I will warn you though, if you don't like them at first, keep them anyway. Some juices age like fine wine, others age like fish. Its called steeping. The ones you don't like are a nice back up--and you can maybe vape them if you have a cold or have vaper's tongue (a condition where you lose your sense of taste for a while--it has many causes and just as many treatments). Since you can't taste anything under such conditions anyway--you won't care what they taste like.

As to the coughing. That can be from several causes. First the smoking, it makes you cough--smoker's cough we all know about it. But also trying to inhale your pv like a cigarette can cause it to.

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/ecf-library/337017-inhalation-technique-e-cigarette.html

I coughed a bit at first too until I learned how to inhale that worked for me. Since I was a pipe smoker it was a bit easier for me as taking a drag from the lungs with a pipe is not really something you want to do--even the crappiest pipe tobacco is stronger than most cigarette tobacco (well at least in the States). So I gently draw the vapor into my mouth by creating suction with my cheeks. Its kinda hard to describe exactly, its something one has to well teach themselves to do.

Then I hold the vapor in my mouth for a bit, usually around 4 or 5 seconds. Since the properties of vapor are different than smoke nicotine absorption through the mucus membranes of the mouth, throat and nose absorb the nicotine better than the lungs do. I then do a shallow inhale into my lungs (basically enough to have air to exhale) and then exhale through the nose.

As to buying juices, since your tastes can and will change on short notice and sometimes without warning, I would suggest getting smaller bottles at first until you find something you like a lot. I wouldn't buy over 15ml unless I know I like it--and sample bottles (between 3-5 ml) are great for trying flavors.
