I loved grandpa's mix from madvapes, but like many others I tasted something in it that I could not put my finger on. Tonight i was trying a new beer, 21st amendment's fireside chat winter spiced ale. Upon smelling the beer i noticed something familiar, yet hard to put my finger on. It took me a long time to come to this conclusion, but the smell and flavor of this beer was the same as grandpa's mix.
So what's the flavor? I believe it to be star anise. It's used in many different things, potpourri, etc.
Just thought I would share. I really loved grandpa's mix, and like many others there was a flavor that i couldn't figure out, some people said spicy, piney, melon like, etc.
But I think I have solved the mystery, I'm 99% sure the mystery flavor in grandpa's mix is star anise.
