In the "old days"...it took 5 volt vaping and dripping for me to stay off cigs. Now-a-days the VV will help you. Dripping is NOT very practical if you drive 4 hours a day though. So the cartos/tanks will help with that. tanks are a bit more ....um....fiddly. Start with the cartos, IMO and keep the coil wet by tipping!

THIS. This is why I wasn's successful a few years back but rolling in the vape now! :D

i'm starting my 2nd full month of the whole vaping thing.. started with the 510's from Totally Wicked, which, like a lot of others i see, I grew out of very quickly. I wish i would have just started with the eGos that i now use..! I have the 1000 mAh passthrough and a 650 mAh twist, and both have been amazing... I do like the CE4's for ease of use and switching flavors often & quickly.. though i did just start doing 'direct dripping' a few days ago and really enjoy it..!

To the OP, MelissaAnn - stick with it..! I still smoked a few 'analogs' the whole first month i vaped.. mostly it was the one in the morning and after meals... As of yesterday i have been 100% analog free... :D the few times i even start to think about smoking, i vape through it. if you still get a craving, vape some more.

the benefits i have seen & felt after only the first week of vaping and just cutting down on the cigs was so substantial - it really made me want to push throuh to see if i would start to feel even better... which i have! no more stinky butts around, no more labored breathing, my voice sounds better, and just all around feeling good for giving up the habit. the forums here as well as other places i have found are filled with people who really are supportive and want new vapers to succeed.. much luck to all the new vapers & posters here.. we are part of the vaping revolution..!

IMHO, it's a marathon and not a sprint. While agree that someone has to want stop smoking to stop smoking. I don't agree that it's an all or nothing game. Vaping isn't a smoking cessation mechanism it's a healthier alternative that follows similar ritual, delivers nic and eliminates the other ~3999 harmful chemicals we were inhaling. I wish every could simply "quit" smoking but also think that any cig avoided is a small victory. Many people here have been very successful with a transition period of smoking less supplemented with vaping (hopefully leading to all vaping one day).

No one should feel bad or be chastised for trying, any smokes avoided is a step towards a healthier future.

On the money.

... Vaping isn't a smoking cessation mechanism it's a healthier alternative....

I love smoking. I loved my cigars even more than cigs. I don't want to quit "smoking". Vaping is having my cake and eating it too.

Bottom line, if someone wants to seek an alternative, and smoke while they do, does anyone, particularly an ex-tobacco smoker have any justification to criticize? (hahaha took me a couple hours to word that 'politikaly correctly' :p )

Love all the commentary..Few things - yes i do live in NJ, so $8.50 for my kool xl green brand is steep. 3/4 to a Pack a day for 26 years. Enough is enough. In my early 30s I tried quitting for fear of what MAY happen, now a week before my 39th! birthday, stuff HAS happened, I cut back on mountain biking because of the wheezing, I do boot camp at my gym and Im mortified at how I cough and wheeze when working out. I cough phlegm. I am 100% healthy all my life, never EVER go to a doctor, and yet the last 2 years I get sick all the time. I have chronic bronchitis. And my lungs hurt and burn all the time. I wanted to wait to quit till my birthday - sept 27th but, i dunno, i just had enough so I quit 3 days ago. I had vaped before (while smoking, as an icing on my cake not as a means to quit) and I loved it. SO i knew that vaping would work for me where patches, gum and lozenges handnt. I hadnt planned on quitting, I really planned to smoke until I died. Many years ago, I had given up all drugs and alcohol and really, please, so I wanted to just be left alone with my nicotine! BUT, my lungs had other plans for me... because its just to the point where they ache and hurt and burn 24 hours a day and while I WANT to keep smoking, my lungs wont let me. I have NO problem with nicotine though - leave me one addiction please. :) SO vaping will work well. WHen I came to ecf 2 weeks ago and started reading I thought Id wait till I got my first PV, but my lungs and my mind sped things up and I bought some cheap (awful!) recharging disposable? thing. ANd I am using that. My withdrawl is intense and awful and I feel sick, but somewhere in the back of my mind, I feel better already. I think on Day 3 I am right in the middle of the worst withdrawl and smoking an analog doesnt appeal to me at all. I have no craving for it, only a craving to get this brick off my chest and lungs,

Long sigh.

I am so worried about my set up! I see I picked the right one I just hope I know what to do. I dont even know if I got cartos/tanks. I thought I did but I dont think I bought what some of you are recommending? Also I was going to place an order with another vendor for some juice because I wasnt thoroughly pleased by virgin vapors juice. At this point though TASTE is the least of my concerns. I just need the nicotine. I dont have taste buds yet anyway!

I gotta go look at my order to see if I bought the cartos.tank things......

thanks again to all who help all of us out. Whether we want the icing on the cake or to change our analog ways..... all of you help.

ANd I loved the adele song. :)

As far as juice goes, Order more juice nao! It can take longer than you anticipate to get to you. Some vendors have it ready to ship, some will mix it when you order. Sometimes their local post office takes three days to get it to a hub... orz . GotVapes has ready to ship inventory and quantity indicators, and they're good with processing same day.

In the meantime, watch some vids about the kit you have coming so when it arrives you can prep everything blindfolded and get down to vaping :vapor:

It'll be great when it arrives and you can actually start! Good your doing it now, when I was in my late 30s I had all of those symptoms you're talking about and I ignored them. Now at 50 I have major COPD. Since vaping my symptoms are much less severe but the damage is done. Stick with it, I'm excited for you

You might want to try picking up some Blu disposables (not the kits) at Walmart to get you by until your order arrives. I've not tried them but I have seen several comments here indicating that, as disposables go, they are good enough to use temporarily. They should help considerably with the nicotine withdrawal. However, vaping releases nicotine into the body very slowly compared to cigarettes so don't expect a quick nicotine hit.

All I can say is after smoking 2 packs a day for over 20 yrs I bought an ego twist, clearomizer (tank and atty combined) the clearos come with a nice mouth piece as well. Bought one of each at first ...then one day after using it I ordered 2 more 1000mau batts, and 6 more clearos. Still looking for the perfect menthol for me but that's another story.

Good luck!

I used to live right by where you are, and cigs are expensive!

Now is the part where I think you should just chill-out, put your trust in what the ECF members have helped you order, and do your best to not maim the mailman! If you don't get an essential part in your order, I am sure someone can get you something quickly if you keep us updated in this thread (I've seen this happen a lot in ECF). It sounds like you have all the motivation to make this work, and you just need to let it happen. Hope that helps!

I'm still a newbie. I’ve been using a great menthol juice from Vape Dudes it’s called ICE/ICE. Their Fire/Ice is also pretty darn good. Give them a try, u can order several 10ml bottles to help u find the juice you enjoy. I remember the dreaded feeling of “being without” when I could not find the juice I liked or worst yet, know what I liked but didn’t order more before running out. But now that I’m comfortable with the flavor I can stock up. It takes a little time to get comfortable and to feel secure.

Sounds like ur ready mentally,,u can do this. Just keep going in the right direction, ur answer is out there. U will find ur own sweet spot of equipemnt and juice!

If anyone who had experience and multiple eGo batteries might I suggest getting the JoyeTech 18650 Mod. You can find them complete with a battery for around $27US. It has several Voltage settings. You can take it up to 4.2/4.1 volts after a fresh charging, then down to 3.7V regulated and 3.3V.

They have the brains, the Version 2 top part of the mod for around $10 or a little more. They got Tubes too, I thought about turning my own. And the best thing is you can use an eGo charger to charge the 18650.

This Menthol can you taste ANYTHING besides the Menthol? Out of all the Menthol liquids I have tried none of them I could taste any other flavor in any discern-able fashion. Always thought why have any other flavors added when you can never taste anything beyond the Menthol.

The ICE/ICE is pretty much just a cool menthol flav, but it has a nice TH. It also makes for a great base to add other flavors to it. Some flavs to me are overpowering, this gives it a menthol kick and smooth’s out the overall taste for me. I like adding a few drops of the Grape Vape to the Ice when looking for a change. The Fire/Ice has a great cinnamon test, like the old Red Hots candy, I also thin this out with the Ice/Ice when it gets to tasting too strong

When they are on sale I buy backups for my backups! Some will fail, hopefully not, so you'll want a few extras on hand.

Before I got on ECF just now and read your post, I went to Virgin Vapors and got two more twists, Vivi Nova replacement heads, and drip tips. I convinced myself I needed backups, and you can't beat that price. The pink twist was calling my name, and I love the grip on the black twist so I got another black one. The credit card is again on lockdown.

I'm not going to tell you to get this outfit or that, I think you've already gotten a lot of good advice and made a good decision on your first setup. Now, just sit back, vape a couple disposables or chew some nic gum if you got any handy. Chill, breathe deep - hold it - let it out slowly. Clear your mind of all your doubts and worries. Go back to "Chill, breathe deep..." repeat several times. Feel better?

We have a couple of things in common and I wanted to share them with you.
I also felt the desperate need to stop smoking soon. I'll be turning 54 on the 29th of this month and had set my D-day for analogs for that day. Started smoking at around 14, so that's 40 years of habit & addiction built up. I know cold turkey won't work for me, nor chewing the nicgumettes - been there, done that! Just 4 years ago, I had an angioplasty and three (3) stents put in one artery. Cold turkey lasted all of 5 days after the operation! Now, at times, I can hardly stand up without getting dizzy and things going gray - like I said, I need to quit soon, like yesterday!

A guy at the autoshop turned me onto the slim 510 ecigs starter kit about 6 months ago and I thought, "Now this is something that might work!" But didn't like the short lifespan of the batteries and cartridges. I needed something bigger, longer lasting, being a PAD + smoker. Living in Bangkok, however, didn't help at all; it put a damper on getting anything decent quickly. So I've been checking out the web and made a couple of orders and a couple of mistakes; i.e. you can't ship FedEx press, or DHL to thailand. Then I found this forum and it has helped immensely! I also found out that the kits that I ordered fell in line with a lot of the advice you've been getting here. I just wish I had been as lucky as you were to have found this place before doling out a bunch of cash just to find one good starter kit. (I went the "Ultimate kit" route with the first kit through one vender, another Ult. kit through a second, and yet a third APV through a third vender!)

Fortunately, the 2nd and 3rd kits are just what the "Dr.s" here were recommending and I wasn't sorry for my choice - research having paid off. The 2nd kit being an eGo-C style kit with 1.2 ml "e-tank" cartridges w/changeable atomizers and the 3rd a is a 3.5 ml SCC/DCC (Single/Dual Coil Cartomizer) Tank called Odyssey, by Totally Wicked in the UK, which btw is an outstanding APV (Advanced Personal Vaporizer)! :2cool:

With the majority of my orders in hand a week now, I am a happy camper :headbang: - with 3 more 3.5 ml tanks and more juice due in any time now!!!

I've cut my stinky burning to only a few a day. I love the taste and feel of the vaping so much more and it totally satisfies the "oral" fixation as well as the nicotine one!

So, short story, long :glare: : Hang in there. WE'RE GONNA MAKE IT!!! You're not alone out there.

Here's to being smoke free, :toast:

Oh, here's a PS,

You had a post talking about variable voltage batteries being (to your understanding) advantageous to saving battery power. While this may be true - lower voltages may add to your battery life - the main reason vapers use vv is to enhance the flavor and/or vapor quality of their e-juices.

Some juices taste better at higher voltages, others may taste better at lower voltage. What the vv does is enable us to find the "sweet spot" of a particular e-liquid. I have found, through my narrow spectrum of e-juices, that the sweet spot of fruity or sweet/caramel flavors seem to be around 4v to 4.2v. While stronger, robust flavors like tobacco or cinnamon vape very well at normal 3.7v. (I hope I'm not mistaken about 3.7v being the norm.) But as in many other aspects of vaping, this is subject to personal taste.

In your order, I believe you'll get an eGo Twist battery, which starts at 3.2v and goes up to 4.8v in increments of .2v. When you have your tanks primed and filled, attach it to your twist and start out at the lowest voltage 3.2. Then gradually increase the voltage with every other puff till you find the flavors wake up and taste like you think they should. If you increase the voltage further, you'll probably notice that the taste will, more than likely, depreciate at some point. Then back down the voltage to where it tasted best - you've now found the "sweet spot" of that juice.

Another topic that hasn't been touched on too much is the e-luquid's base ingredients, which are PG (Propylene Glycol) and VG (Vegetable Glycerin) I won't go into that here, but you can find them discussed on this thread: What is the difference between PG and VG?

Hope this doesn't overload your system. Let me know if you have any questions.

Happy vaping,
Chak
