I want to learn how to make an ecig, but I don't know anything about this stuff. I used to do stained glass, so I do know how to use a gigantic soldering iron and I did repair my daughter's Hello Kitty headphones by cutting the old plug thing off and soldering a new one on.

So where to start learning? I ordered this little "learn to solder" kit Amazon.com : Elenco AmeriKit Learn to Solder Kit : Robotics Science Kits : Toys & Games and this book http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0596153740/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Is that a good place to start learning about this stuff? Is there any ecig kit out there that comes with detailed instructions that would be something to start with?

Thanks for the reply. The book looks like fun, so even if I don't ever get enough knowledge to tackle a PV I will hopefully at least learn something. From what I can tell, a lot of the stuff I can do with the kids too, which they might enjoy.
I will advise that extreme caution is to be used when showing children these tools, after all they can burn themselves and much worse than that.

Of course!

MadVapes has a variety of box mod full kits to build, they're simple starter sets....Mod Kits - Madvapes Mods - Mods

I'll check into those. I think I looked at them a while back, but couldn't find the instructions. I'll have to look again. Without instructions it would just be a box of parts to me. I guess there might be you tube videos out there though.

I would like to add an idea into this junior soddering station, a foot pedal switch that one has to stand on to keep the circuit enegrized and the moment they walk away the circuit shut's its self down until they return to the station again. I would also think you can include one of those little buzzers from radio shack to also give an audio que that slow down as the iron cools down.

That's a really cool idea. They'd never be doing this without an adult present though. I'd put the soldering iron away in an inaccessible location much as I do with the hot glue gun, lol. God, they love the hot glue gun. I might look into the foot pedal thing for myself though, lol. "Do I really remember unplugging that?!?"

Last year I had 7 4th graders in my basement 2x a week working on a destination imagination project where they built a balsa wood tower that holds weight. They also had to do a skit and build scenery and costumes and stuff. The catch with DI is that they have to do every bit of it themselves. You can demonstrate how, but they have to do it. Hot glue, saws, electric knives (for cutting cardboard), sewing machine, etc... It's really amazing what they can do (and not kill or seriously injure themselves) if you give them a chance. I know DI has a robotic category too. I'm sure I'd be a stressed out lunatic if I had to supervise 7 4th or 5th graders with soldering irons and electricity.

At any rate, none of the electronics stuff would be unsupervised.

I have a "NicoStick" slightly modified, put it in a bigger box to fit a 18650, that I still use frequently...:)
The classics just worked, maybe not as pretty as some, but very functional.

I would rather do an 18650. Is the box you used still available, and do you remembers where you got it?

Far too long ago to be sure but likely Radio Shack. Take a 18650 down to the store and check it against whatever boxes they have in stock. Be advised you will need a battery holder or rig the battery contacts if you go to the bigger box.....:)

They will also have the 5 amp switches also...avoid the small cute switches that are rated lower amps, you'll end up having to replace them too often.

My soldering practice kit came today. It's cute!

I got it all put together, and it worked. I don't really understand it though, just sort of a solder by numbers kit. I will have to sit down and study how the circuit is set up and try to understand what the components do. The book I ordered came as well, and it looks pretty neat. It has breadboard experiments, and looks like it goes into just enough detail so that I will learn something without being completely overwhelmed.
