It seems that the search ID changes whenever I access the page. Is there a work around for this?
I wish I could bookmark the "what's new" page...

That is because the searches are dynamically built -- they get cached and expire after a short bit.
I get that, but there should still be a way to do this. I work for a website development company and we have sites that are able to do this. I'm not a developer, but a sys admin, so I don't know the logic behind it. Either way, just my wish
In effect they are bookmarks, the queries are built and ready to run at a click.
The results are not worth bookmarking since they are generated results and change quite rapidly thats why we cache them for only a short time.
As an example if you look at todays posts this is what you get:
You could bookmark that but if we add or remove forums your bookmark would return a different result (The search is built using using some variables (vbPhrases) that get changed once in awhile.)

Makes sense, but it should be fairly simple to do a select * on the forum table to include all? Either way, like I said, not a huge deal just a convenience to have my home page bookmarked to this page. One less click to do
Have you considered using an RSS reader? Google Reader is a good one, and it's free.
I subscribe to the ECF RSS feed and I see every new post without actually coming to the site. If something interests me, I click and go to this site where I can read the complete thread.

That query is a broad sweep and is pretty solid, though using a feed reader is probably a better option. that query will return between 4 and 5000 posts many of which you probably wont care about. Chitchat threads, closed classifieds ads, etcWow, that looks right. Thanks clownballs

Thanks oldsoldier, I will give both a try and see which one works better for me. I have become such an ECF junkie, I must have my fix every hour or I will go into convulsions...Website, Email, mobile phone, whatever it takes...LOL!
