I had my Alien for about 4-5 months and finally today was the mod's day of reckoning. It was working fine until yesterday. Just that sometimes when I put the batteries into the mod and closed the hatch, the mod wouldn't register that I had put in a set of batteries. So what I had to do was open and close the hatch again and then the mod would recognize the battery's presence.

Today I wasn't lucky and when I tried multiple times opening and closing that little hatch with a good set of LG batteries in the right position, the mod just stopped "understanding" that there's a set of batteries there. I think my Alien is gone and joined the other Aliens that were defective and there's plenty.

More times than not, when people on this forum had an issue with their mod on this forum it has been with the smok Alien (or AL85). There have been numerous complaints that include all aspects of the Alien having issues. The average life of this mod cannot be proven to last more than 6 months in an overall average of when used daily (correct me if I'm wrong).

I'm just very upset and will have to buy a new mod. Probably a Tesla Nano Steampunk 120 watt. I only hear good things about this mod and everyone recommends it here.

Aw man....

I wish you had your experience and wrote this thread yesterday. Edit; 3 days ago upon original ebay order.

Id prefer that your mod didn't break at all but now I'm in the same boat. :thumb:

5 months and 29 days to go... or round about ;)

@OlderNDirt
I took off my extra little bit of paper with the date and battery type stuck on.
To be replaced with a sharpie.

Just about getting in with no troubles now. Thanks :thumb:

I always seen people having issues here on the forum with the Alien, while I was just thinking, "this won't happen to me"...

how much is an Alien? $40-45? Meh, I think 6 months is pretty good.
I bought it from the shop so I paid $65. But that was my only 2 battery mod so I was getting better battery life. Also it was my only mod that can safely use 65-85 watts like I would use once in a while for my rda's. But I do do need to point out that I am lucky I have other setups, thanks to my Tootle Puffing habit that I would do 90% of the time. All I can say is that when I do replace the Alien, I'll be saying that new beginnings are fun.

That's what I did, plus a Battlestar, couldn't be happier. The Nano is my everyday/most everywhere mod, Battlestar stays at home and is backup, though I'm planning on another Tesla (or 2) in the future. Don't do more than 60w so more than enough power from both.

Alien lasted less than 3 months.

I see issues all the time here on these cheap china, mass produced devices. Yes they look good and have powerful and catchy names, but imo they are garbage. Some may get a year or so, but most don't last it seems . but they are inexpensive and if you figure out what you would of been spending on cigarettes, it's worth it really. If you guys are buying a 50 dollar mod and get 6 months or a year out of it, you shouldn't be surprised imo , that's only equal to one weeks supply of cigs for heavens sake

I'm on month 5, no issues yet. Maybe mine is made by YiHi.[emoji6]

I recommend the Smoant Battlestar for your next mod. I've had mine for about 5 months with daily use and it's going strong and I love it. I'm a one mod man so I'm not switching mods throughout the day, so it gets plenty of use. I've dropped it, slept on top of it and given it the daily abuse you'd expect and it takes it and keeps going. Just thought I'd chime in with my suggestion because someone turned me on to it and I'm happy they did. Good luck and I hope your next mod is your last.

*Sits back and continues to vape on 2 1/2 year old IPV3 and Sigelei 150 watt mods*
I have a MVP3 Pro over 2 years old that's still going strong. The last internal mod I ever bought, gets used once about every 2-3 weeks jut to cycle it, still take it on long trips for a 3rd backup. May be a brick but never had an issue with it.

I couldn't agree more! If you want a device that'll last, it'll cost you. I only use Evolv and Yihi devices because I don't have to be worry about them failing. I compare my dna devices to my Klein side cutters, sure they cost 3x times as much but they'll last much longer, work 10x better and if something does go wrong you know the manufacturer will replace/fix it.

I found that small labels I make with my brother label maker are thin enough that the battery with it on will slide in/out quite easily. Good thing cause if I wrote on the battery with a sharpie, even I wouldn't be able to read it!
