iAtty Bottom Plastic tight MAX !

Hi there,
My Bottom iAtty Bottom Plastic is very tight when i am screwing into the iAtty Steel Base. It was so tight every time when i need to take it out or put it in i need Pliers and rubber Gloves to help me. Now i decided to put aside till i get a Steel base or a Bottom Plastic to solve this.

Guys what can i do?
anyone facing this problem?

The iatty base plastics are a bit different to each other. One goes easy onto the base the other one hard - always afraid to destroy the threads when putting it on. I would go for another plastic part.

You have to check that no wire is got caught in the threads for sure as repent said.

Definitely no wire caught up. its the threads , most likely. It was tight when i first got it . . thought it will be ok after few use but still no changes.

get plastic bottom to try and fix the problems. i will give it a try.

i m facing the same problem too.the base cap n plastic fits in essily the 1st time.but things start to change after that.same like u i m using plier n cloth to loosen n tigthening them.but now i simply just leave it,didnt seperate the 2 piece anymore.i now just leave a very small gap enough for the wire to go in betw them when i m changing my wire n wick.

i have this problem too, its in so tight that i need to use pliers to get them off, i think the bottom plastic became fat with the heat.
i bought a new bottom plastic, installed easily hand tight only, ill be testing this one. well see if this one will become tight too.

I had the exact same problem too, and I forgot to mention it to the lad I sold my iAtty to. I tiny bit of vaseline fixed it for me, though it worked fine without it for a week. I just panicked because it felt like more than reasonable force to get it in and out, but it always worked and there was never pieces of wire in the threads.

Mine has done this now for two plastic parts, Mine becomes more difficult over time. My current one is pretty much fixed into place


Mine have never been crossthreaded, and the wire has never gotten stuck in the threads.

is there any chance for a metal bottom piece to eliminate this issue it does it have to be plastic since the wire touches it?

I personally would like to see some retrofit parts made to eliminate this problem, unfortunately for the life of me, I can't figure out why it is happening. There appears to be no damage to the threads on the plastic. it's like it just decided to swell LOL

I thought I would update y'all on this.

I got a replacement bottom plastic from Bruce, and decided before putting it in that I would try to remove any burr that may have been created when the internal threads were cut in the bottom metal piece of the iAtty. I took a piece of 400 grit sandpaper (don't go using any grit lower than that) rolled it into a tube (like a straw) and lightly sanded the the threads (in the bottom metal piece.) I made sure to wash any abrasive/ wire edge that was removed, and screwed the new plastic in and it is now silky smooth top to bottom. Works like it's 'sposed to now

I will let you know as time goes on if this corrected the problem, but I am pretty positive it has

Imeo, I will try the old plastics, (I still have both of them) when I replace the wick again. I didn't even think to try them. There was a HUGE difference in the way the new one screwed in compared to the old ones (even from the start.) I will change my coil in the next day or two to give the old ones a try.

I have a feeling there was a burr on the internal threads, it was sharp and would catch fibers of a paper towel when I'd dry out the threads, after a quick bit of sanding it is silky smooth inside. I have a feeling over time the wire edge was cutting into the plastic, causing it too bind, as it got screwed farther and farther into the base, the coefficient of friction increased (due to surface area) and was making it tight.

I will definitely report back after I retry those pieces

Neither of the old ones work, they do both work better than they did when I removed them, I think the threads were already ruined on them though.

Imeo, did you change the specs slightly on the new parts, because it is a MAJOR difference from what I had experienced before. I don't know if it was me cleaning up the threads or just a perfect part, or both. Well whatever did it, I feel confident now that part will last much longer now

I didnt change anything Rick. All plastics worked very good when people bought them but they started suddenly to get fatter. But the strange thing is that this happened to only a very few people. I dont know what to think about it. My plastic is ok for many months now

I also do have one of the bottom plastics to get fatter by the time. It's getting harder to screw every time i rebuild the iatty. I never recognized wire to came into the threads and i checked the threads - they'are looking like normal, no difference to see when i compare it to a new piece. Cleaned everything, but no better result. I will use it as long as i can change wire/wick with it, but i think i have to change it soon. Luckily i got spare parts from Georgio yesterday

BTW: The plastics in my second iatty don't have this effect although i use both iatties in parallel.
