Smoked for over 40 years, vaping and former smoker for just over 3 years.

I have no idea what-so-ever! It all comes down to what I become with neither, something I have as yet felt compelled to test. I'll do whatever it takes to remain sane and reasonably happy for whatever time I have left. More then likely, that would mean a return to smoking.

i still like the smell of burning tobacco and still on occassion actually crave a menthol cig. if i couldn't vape that craving away than that craving would win and of course would lead back to smoking full time just like it did when i quit without vaping for almost 5yrs in the past. so yup, i would more than likely go back to smoking if i couldn't vape unless i happen to develop a sweet tooth craving instead and just make a bunch of nic candy with the 27yrs or so worth of nic i have in freezer

Nope, not going back, if forced to I'd slap on a Nic patch, chew on nic gum, or nic lozenges for the rest of my days. Spent the last 10+ of my 25years smoking trying to quit all together, don't see myself quitting vaping any time soon either, addictive personality, and cigs were the hardest thing to quit for me over alcohol and other less mentionable substances. Just not going back again, wheel of addiction I learned in counseling, where you got off the wheel is where you start back or twice as worse, pack and half a day by the time I quit, nope not going to 3 PAD at all or anywhere between those 2. Happy with my better breathing, and I've built my stamina back up to enough at my age I can do 5 to 10mile bike rides again.

Curious to know, if you suddenly couldn't vape no more for whatever reasons, hypothetically of course, would you go back to smoking? Also want to know how long you have been vaping ? Just curious how many, like myself, get to a point where they know whole heartedly they definitely would never smoke again and curious if it has to do with time vaping?

One of my smoking relapses came after 10 years. I've talked to others who decribe something similar. I don't know what would happen now. Even if I stopped vaping I'd keep the stockpile. I enjoy vaping and find it an entirely superrior experience to smoking. Where are the reports of doctors treating illnesses caused by using e-cigs? Governments need to find some other way to tax poor people and their kids.

If you like it they will tax it!

Here in NV they need to consider it food so I don't have to pay sales tax on it.[emoji106]

15 years of smoking (started late, dumb as I am) with a 2 year pause in between.
I vape for 3,5 years now and don't think I´d pick up smoking again.
I forgot my vape on a family meeting once, lots of "smoke triggers" like having lunch and beer drinking. Not to mention I could have bummed a cig no problem. I didn't even think about it.
Of course I "wanted" to vape; but the urge was literally nothing compared to the terror that was the first two days of quitting smokes cold turkey.

what would have to be gone to keep me from vaping?? the equipment, the juice ( nic)??

if it was the equipment, I would start "Licking"... a drop of juice on the finger and lick it up..
if it was the supply of nic, Ive got that covered.... got enuf 100nic base to last me 10-15 yrs at 18 mg/ml

It's more of , if vaping for a period of time, does it turn some of us mentally against smoking, like the old adage, reformed smokers are the worst...I was a big smoker for over 30 years and vaping did something to me that I thought would never happen, I now detest cigs and can literally get sick just smelling it. I don't know if this common for vapors who have been at it for a long enough period . It happened about 4 to 5 years into it for me. it's really about knowing for sure if you would go back, so It's just if you couldn't vape in every aspect

I have no confidence in the flesh. I've stocked up and will continue to do so until I can't any longer. I've smoked for way to long to trust myself that I wouldn't go back. I would like to think after over a year of not smoking that I'd not even desire to smoke again, but I just don't know.

I smoked for well over 40 years and now into my third year vaping.About every other month I cave and have a smoke.Sadly if vaping were no long available to me I'd slowly fall back into the habit and be at a pack and a half a day like I was before I found vaping...I really, really hope that this doesn't happen.

I've only been vaping a year and a half after all that cigarette use. Even now if I find myself in a stressful situation which is associated or relieved with smoking I still get that little tickle in the back of my mind "you know a cigarette would really help right now". So if I had to stop vaping, I'm sure at some point I'd pick it up again, and if I have one or two cigs I'm sure I'd be back up to a pack and a half in no time.

When I was 40 I quit smoking and stayed off for 2 years. Never had a craving. Hated the smell. Smokers made me barf.

And then one day I was smoking again. And back over 2 packs a day in no time.

So I only speak for myself when I saw I have no question whatsoever I would smoke again at some point should I give up nicotine.

I would like to think I would never go back to smoking but I fear that I would. Thankfully I will never have to find out because I saw the writing on the wall and paid heed to the warning signs.

I smoked for 45+ years ... sometimes over 2 packs a day ... but on average 1 1/2 packs a day. I have been vaping 4 months shy of 6 years. If forced to give up vaping I am sure I would suffer through those first few smokes and would quickly be back up to over a pack a day.

Even after all this time vaping the smell of someone smoking does not bother me at all. The smell of a smoker isn't pleasant though. I usually keep that fact to myself though because that was me for way too many years.

Let me tell you how I fell...................

It had been a couple years and I was a very happy ex-smoker. Never craved, never thought about smoking in any way, good or bad.

So I'm driving through Montana and gassing up the car and see a sigh for Marlborough for like 3 bucks a pack. Now I'm from NY and I haven't had a name brand smoke since like the 80's.

So I buy a pack and remember to ask for matches as I haven't carried a lighter in years.

Get to my hotel and step outside and light one up. Stink to high heaven and makes me cough my brains out. This is the point where a sane person walks away. But for me the second one wasn't to bad.

By the third one I was a light smoker again. That first pack lasted several days. Thats not to bad. The second pack lasted a couple days. The third pack lasted a day. The fouth pack lasted a few hours and I was back over two packs a day within a couple weeks.

This is a slippery slope! Let me just say that I don't care for the smell or taste of cigs. I'm much like @vapdivrr in that aspect.
Also, much like a few others in this thread, I have dealt with other physical and mental addictions that had me on deaths door.
The thing about me and addiction is that when the cycle gets broken, it's easy to say "never again" and wholeheartedly mean it. Now I just say not today. I was and active drunk and opiate addict for years, and smokes were the longest standing, equally difficult thing to release.
I would like to say no to picking back up smokes, but I'm not sure that would be the case. So I'll just say, not today?

Great thread folks.

After 35+ yrs of smoking I quit because I found vaping, been vaping for a drop over 3yrs. If vaping were gone would I go back to smoking? My answer would be not immediately, I can do without either, but over the course of time I'm sure there would be a thought/trigger to smoke again hopefully I can still say "I can do without".

And that is just how easy it is to allow the smokes to grab you.

A few months ago I was buying a carton of smokes for my hubby. I decided to go ahead and buy one pack of my favorite brand. I opened them, smelled them (they smelled really good). I took one out and lit it up. Oh my, I seem to have forgotten how to smoke and yuck, yuck, yuck. It tasted horrible. One drag was all I could handle. I put that thing out and gave the rest of them to hubby. Curiosity was appeased :D

I know myself well enough to know that if there was no way to vape I would re-learn how to smoke and I would get used to the taste again.

@mattiem I'm the same as you. Smoke from cigs don't bother me. In fact, I kind of like the way it smells. I do not like the way it smells on others. I would never ever comment though.

My son and daughter still smoke. You can lead a horse to water..... ya know?!? I have no problem being around them. Never get the urge to bum a hit. I do like the smell of a freshly lit cig. *vape, vape, vape*

Smoked for 27 years with the last 10 being a 2+PAD smoker. Been vaping about 4 years and smoke free from 3 and a half years.

I don't think I would ever smoke again. I really have no desire and the smell of burning cigarettes is off putting today. However, recently I've been having using dreams where I pick up a pack of smokes and wake up just as I am about to light up. When I wake, I look around and then feel relieved as it was only a dream. I used to get these when I quit drinking and other things many years ago. It just goes to show how addicted to those darn cigarettes I was as 3 years later and I still get using dreams. I did not start drinking (or other things) due to the dreams and probably would not start smoking either. Am glad I will never have to make that decision though as I am pretty well stocked up.
