I would really like to send out a huge thank you with hugs and kisses to my Illinois vapers that took the time to go down (or up) to Springfield.

I know I am going to sound like a wimp, but with my small children I just can't do the trip. You guys and gals have givin so much of your time and I appreciate all you are doing to allow me the freedom to keep vaping.

A quick shout-out to Illinois vapers--

Would you please take a moment to email your contact information (full name, address, email, phone) to Info@MidwestVapersGroup.org ? We're trying to gather all contact information for Illinois folks in a single spot so that we can more efficiently coordinate communication.

We will still, of course, be posting on the forum, but sometimes stuff gets missed or buried.

We have received written confirmation from the office of the sponsor (Rep. Marlow Colvin) of the Illinois bill to ban the sale of electronic cigarettes that the bill will NOT be called at the Human Services Committee hearing on 4/21/10.

That means it will not be discussed or voted on, so we do NOT need to be there.

The deadline for the House to hear Senate bills is 4/23/10.

That means that, unless Rep. Colvin calls this as an emergency hearing (not at all likely), the bill is dead!

We won't know for absolutely 100% sure that he won't call an "emergency hearing" until Thursday afternoon ... but again, there's almost no chance of this happening. Remember--the head of the Committee, Naomi Jakobsson, removed her name as a co-sponsor.

We'll wait until Friday to break out the champagne, but a few beers now would be appropriate.

Way to go, Illinois!

I'll post more later, but wanted to get this out there so that people could adjust their plans since they will NOT need to be in Springfield Wednesday.

I was in the New User (Newcomer or whatever it's called) area last week drumming up support at crunch time and a lot of people stepped up! Thanks to them, to JustJulie, to the people that showed up downstate, to everyone here that emailed and called, to my fellow CASAA folks for everything! I won't stop holding my breath till it's truly over but if it's killed in committee, that is a major accomplishment.
The cynical (paranoid?) side of me suspects that Colvin might still call it and we are being lulled into letting our guard down. Remain Vigilant!

That came to mind for me as well.

Question for those in the legal/political know, is it at all possible that this could be the case?

+1 in thanking everyone for thier efforts!! I never really trust these people, either, so I'll be waiting to see if they pull some last minute stunt to sneak it through. I'm not that familiar with the inner workings of Illinios gov. A victory for common sence would be so refreshing!

I won't go into the details because.. well.. frankly, it's NUNYA.

But the ALA recently discovered that they were losing out on a $250K (read: quarter million dollars) charitable contribution because of the actions of their lobbyist(s) and SB3174.

For all I know, $250K is nothing to these folks... but then again, it may have an impact.

I suspect $250K is right about where it comes up on their radar.

I don't want to do too many multiple postings, so I'll just link to this post:

Can we break out the champagne yet, :) or do we have to wait until the day is over.

Well, personally I'm starting to take the wrapping off over the cork, but I'm not popping it open until they go home for the day. (never really trust them boys & girls in Springfield)

You all do realize us Illinoisian's (lol) need to help those New Yorkers now. (Oh, common we can do it, just don't mention we have better pizza's and hot dogs, until after there bill is killed too) Really though Il. and NY are the 2 states that had me worried. We hopefully killed Il. lets knock out NY and I'll think of this as another battle won in this war.

I am looking forward to the end of the day. I had a huge order sitting in check out for unflavored liquid and nic and I surely do not want to have to place it!

I'll be happy to start emailing on behalf of the New Yorkers. A very big thanks to all those who went above and beyond just making phone calls and sending emails. I couldn't head out to Springfield due to work etc but for those that made the trip and for all the huge efforts, I thank you from the bottom of my lungs.

You're probably safe to pop that cork ...

From the web page for the bill, it has been sent back to the Rules Committee per rule 19a, which means it's toast for this session at least.
