I'm about to pitch this thing...

*Ugh* I'm lost here. I just picked up my first RDA today (It's called the Phoenix V6...It's totally a clone of something). I was so excited to try this puppy out. It came installed with 2 coils prebuilt resting at about 2.5 ohms. Threw some juice in there...woh nelly. That's awful...It was almost a menthol...nasty...harsh vape. So I figured "Ok, I'll swap these out with the other two pre builts"...Same thing, gross tasting mentharse. So I went to rebuild it. Came out at 2.2 ohms using 32g flat-wound kanthal and 2mm silica. Still tasted awful. Rinse and repeat for a second coil (I torched the wick and kanthal this time,) still tasting horrendous. I have no idea what to do. I know what this juice should taste like. I've been using it on a low res dripping atty for a few days and it's wonderful. A little guidance? Using a Silver bullet with an 18650 by the way.

I will hazard two guesses. # 1: machine oil. Clone makers never properly clean them before shipping. No. 2, airflow. The higher the coil, the brighter and harsher the taste. If the juice has no menthol, but the icky reminds you of that, can I guess that it is a somewhat metallic taste?

It's hard to tell, it could be your coil if it's tasting that bad. Juice it up pretty good and fire it for at least 5 seconds to see if any part of the coil glows. If one part of the coil has a gap between the silica and coil you will have a bad taste.

I don't really know to be honest. Ive tasted a dry atty before. It's nothing like this. It even smells bad. On all 4 separate coils. The two I built and the 2 factory.

Edit: It's producing vapor. The said vapor just tastes awful.

Did you
A. Wash the thing real good
B. Do a dry burn (as long as your wick wasn't cotton)

Oh yeah...try the same juice in another tank...make sure it ain't the juice that needs steeping!

One of my favorite vapes is Roar Vapor "Strapple" got a 30ml bottle in...loaded me a clearo...vaped and it tasted like I licked a freshly vulcanized tire! 3 weeks later of steeping, got my favorite vape back!

how many times are you torching the wick? i torch and quench 3 times personaly. what pg/vg mix? mesh size (325,400,500)? are you doing the genny tilt to keep the wick wet?
lastly is the air hole lined up with the wick? that can mess you up real quick, without proper airflow over a mesh wick it will shred you and taste like metal ....

Boiling did nothing. Its a dripping atty. Just rebuilt a new coil and it still tastes horrible

well then we need to look at the normal cuprits.
is the airhole lined up correctly? is the coil too far from the airhole? too low? too high? are you running it too dry or too hot? hotspots? etc/ pics could help.
