I'm angry about the recent negative articles - what can I do?

Wow, have ecigs received a lot of bad press lately. I fear more bad press is on the way as we head towards October and a possible FDA notice of proposed ecig regulations. I say possible because we don't know what the FDA will do or if they will delay it, yet again.

There have been some positive stories out there as well, but I feel as though they are not getting the same attention, sensationalism or press coverage as the negative stories and public sentiment is leaning towards the negative side.

I sit here at my computer reading all this stuff and wonder what I can do as an individual to help balance the equation. I post here, on other forums and reply to stories on the news websites, but does it help balance things out? I don't see the headline "ecig's help 25 year, pack a day smokers quit cigarettes" plastered all over the place.

As an individual, what can I do to help spread the word about all the benefits of ecigs, and what can we all do as a group? There's CASAA, and that's wonderful (and I appreciate everything they do), but is it enough?

The more members CASAA has, the larger and louder voice we have. It does seem as if the ANTZ are really ramping up the attack. Join CASAA, if you haven't already. When the Calls to Action show up, send your story to all the names that they list. Mine is a word document that I can copy and paste easily into an email.

We must be somewhat effective or the ANTZ wouldn't be so scared of losing ground. There are good articles out there, but the news stations are going for the shock value stories.

Maybe someone can find out email addresses for the major news stations and we should all send our stories out to them.

Don't get disheartened. It is a battle worth fighting. :)

I like that idea, but maybe simpler to send them all a link to the CASAA tobacco harm reduction success stories collection? I can't seem to find a link to the collection though. Does it exist?

They haven't published the collection yet. They are figuring out a way to have it readable without anyone being able to take stories off and use them for their own agendas. It's a privacy issue that they need to figure out.

I prefer the sending stories in to the news agency because, obviously, they aren't doing a good job researching anything.

Harder to ignore a ton of emails than it is to ignore a single link. There is a part of me that thinks snail mail would be a good thing. Think of the court scene in Miracle on 42nd Street. ;). Bags and bags of letters being deposited on the desks of the people at the FDA. :D

That's all great and all...if "success stories" was all it took to get people off of all that tar and carbon monoxide...then I wouldn't be fat and out of shape..

It can't hurt...but it's not effective till someone chooses to put em down, chooses to expend the effort to get educated and change what they used to do...and if the Government doesn't get in the way and make it REALLY hard to switch from the "stinkys" to an e-cig

I joined CASAA and have been responding to the calls to action.

I like the idea of haveing a Word doc ready to cut and paste, great idea!

I also include these 2 links with my emails. They are recent credible studies of the harmless nature of Vapor exhalation and the near zero second hand vapor issues.

I would be great to find a few more good scientific links to add.

This is a great idea. It would be even better to have a set day to do so. It would show that we are united and organized. Tons of e mails pouring in from all over the country all on the same day.

I try to reply personally to every negative article I read. I just published this on NBC News: E-cigarettes as good as patches in helping smokers quit - Vitals

BUT, I REALLY like the idea of a ready-made DOC to reply to CASSA "Responds for Call". I will look ^^^ to see if I can find your's, Robino. I have been a CASSA member for years, but need to get more diligent and responsive.

WE CANNOT GIVE UP THE FIGHT TO KEEP THIS RIGHT!

Thank you. I would really like to see it happen. I think a headline like "20,000 quit smoking with the help of ecigs and share their stories" would raise some eyebrows. The vitriol being spewed by the ANTZ needs some strong response.
