Hi all!!! I have not had an analog in almost 8 weeks!! After 32 years of smoking, I am quite proud of myself :)

I am currently using an EVOD 1000mah battery and have a Kanger protank II and protank II mini.

The store I buy juice from has over 200 flavors in all nicotine levels. Love them!!! I did find out that their juice is an 80/20 mix.

Where I am having trouble is with the wicks. I can't seem to find any consistency. I have tried all 4 resistances and am still burning wicks in two or three days. The most luck I have had is with the 2.2.

I just bought some 30 gauge kanthal and am considering making my own.

Since my goal is to continue to buy from this local store..... what advice does anyone have on continuing to aim for consistency with the set up I have or should I get a whole new system and keep this as a back up?

The guys at the store are helpful but.... still haven't been able to help me "get it right".

Thanks for any advice you can give!

protanks have a tendency to wick poorly (watch the protank fanboys attack now). your issue is discussed on a daily basis in this forum. it could be as simple as air control, or too think of juice or juice poorly manufactured heads. you mentioned 80/20 mix is that 80vg 20pg? or vice versa. protanks seem to work best with thinner liquid. also darker juice will reduce the life of the coil. you can try soaking the heads in vodka after the taste goes off, rinse with water and let dry. i use vodka for my aspire heads every 2-3 days and they last and last. makes them pearly white all over again.

you can also try a different clearomizer like the pyrex aspire vivi. i find them to work better then any protank and the heads last longer for ME.

I'm sorry for the ignorant question, but how is the upkeep for the Aspire? Can you dry burn them, replace the wicks with cotton, etc.? I've been using the Protank II and really no problems, but wouldn't mind trying something new. I'm used to the upkeep for the Protank, and I'm a relative noob.

Re the ot: I dry burn the head every third day or so, and I usually replace the old wicks with new cotton wicks when I do. They usually last 3 weeks for me, but imo this is really subjective. If they're burning out every third day, idk!

Yep, a head only lasts me about 3 days because I vape really sweet eliquid which really gunks it up fast

as far as rebuilding heads you are going to need some equipment -
a multimeter (or a mod like the MVP2) to check the ohms and for shorts (you do not want to put a shorted head on an ego battery - may fry the battery)

a butane torch -not really necessary except for micro coils which are much, much more consistent

I use a 3/48 machine screw with 8 wraps of 30ga kanthal A1 - once it is torched and compressed several times (being careful to not let the coils overlap) I get a consistent 1.9 ohms in my protank heads

A PBusardo Review - Smoktech RDA & Micro Coils! - YouTube

hope this helps

I have a Protank II and a Mini Protank II and use them daily. I had a lot of wicking problems until I started mouth inhaling first. If you are getting a burnt taste while vaping, this could very well be your problem. After I managed to get that down, I have not had any issues with wicking. I clean the coils in vodka if the draw seems to get really tough.

Cool!! I do have a multi meter and may try to rebuild first before investing in a new system. Regarding percentage... I think PG/VG but I will double check. And yes.. since I tend to like the sweeter flavors maybe it is too hard for these factory wicks.

Some great ideas and food for thought!! Thank you all sooo much... I really want this to work.

you cant dry burn the aspire heads due to the way they are built and the filler material inside. maybe someone has successfully dry burned it but i just use vodka bath over night, rinse let dry, brand new again.

Mouth inhaling.... do you mean (sorry for the ignorant question) letting vapor fill mouth then inhaling it? If so, I am doing that already.

vodka... hmmmm... might try that too, thanks!!

I got tired of messing with tanks and got a Vapor Zeus. I've had mine about a month now and it has performed perfectly with no fiddling or tweaking. I get the same vape every single time. Just my own experience.

My experience with the Zeus is the same. Really good bit of kit. Not only did I get away from leaking inconsistent tanks, but also got a flavor improvement with the smileomizers.

With the consistency of ejuice, it is impossible not to run into some issues. I feel like this is what makes RBAs so popular.

I took the plunge and bought a Reo recently and it is easily the best devices I have picked up. Not very much upkeep and it can take a beating. I use an RDA (Reomizer) on mine, but it still puts out a great vape with stock atomizers too.

I have a Pro and a mini, too, and consistency is an issue with them. For example, last night I loaded up my mini with TV Alien Blood - love that stuff - and it hit perfectly all night. Loved it. Great clouds, great taste, very happy. This morning? Weak vapor, little taste, and the burnt taste is starting. Sigh.

It's just part of the Kanger lifestyle. :)

It's also why I switched to cartos for all-day and chain vaping. It's where I found consistency, and I'm loving it. I still use my Kangers, like last night, but they're just high maintenance.
