I'm not sure if I should post this here, but I'm unloading all my manual V4L gear with a few extras so I figured I'd make it known here in the V4L forums where all you manual users are always hanging out and being wrong about thinking manuals are better than autos. :). Not that I would discourage you from buying my manual gear or anything ;).

Long live the auto shorty!

I love the shorties for a few reasons, one is that they are auto and I like to be able to just pop it in my mouth and vape and still be able to do something else with my hands, like type this post. Two is their small size, they are the lightest thing out there to hang in your mouth and they are easily pocketable and have that analog feel to them.

The downside is the shorter battery life, but I don't care because I like to have multiple flavors loaded without swapping out cartos, and I don't mind carrying a "pack" of shorties - I'd rather have a "pack" of shorties than one XL or a regular battery with a PCC. Multiple charged batteries is better than one battery and a PCC IMO.

As far as how well they vape - they are 3.7 volts, just the same as an XL, it is just that they die faster, which as mentioned above is solved by having a pack of four shorties in your pocket. So they vape the same as an XL if you're on a fresh charge.

So the only other real issue is your preference for air flow, and air flow characteristics have changed on the models whether you are talking manuals, autos, shorties, or XLs. I really really liked the air flow on my older shorties that had the notch in the battery post, but now they don't have the notch anymore so the draw is a little tighter and a little louder. And even that is subject to change depending on the size of the holes on the battery which as far as I know hasn't been permanently set in stone by V4L yet so I can't know what the air flow on a shorty you might order would be like. Regardless, it is still my favorite battery, unless you count my auto pass-thru 'cause I'm a fan of 5 volts.

Give me 5 volt shorties and I'll sell my mod and literally carry a pack of those things.

Those are the pros and cons IMO.

Thanks, very informative. I've gotten used to the regular batts, they feel a little long, but not as bad as I thought they would. But I would really like to try the shorties to get a closer feel of that analog. :)

Hey, a brilliant idea. (Just woke up, maybe not.) But I'd DEF buy something about the size of a pack of cigarettes that would hold 10 assembled auto shorties. I use my case logic case when I'm out of the house because I really like to carry a LOT of charged batts, plus condoms. (I get good batt life usually, but I like to be prepared for unexpected stay-overs or whatever). Shorties really are terrific but batt life is too short to count on them my 12 and 13 hour work days. My favorite arrangement would do away with slots and so much wasted space, just something actually like a pack of cigarettes. It's just a convenient size, and pocketable. They can't be so delicate that if they touched each other they'd be damaged... they're in great bins at the warehouse.

@aubergine as well
I'm using a stainless 100mm length cigarette case I got off ebay. One side of the lid holds 6 charged shorties with carts on them and the other side of the lid I put foam in with cut outs for more more full carts and spots for my empty ones to take home and clean/refill. The entire project cost around 10 bucks and works great in a back pocket.

I so totally agree with you on those auto shorties! For me, they are absolutely perfect in every way - draw, feel, vapor production and taste. Took a bit of getting used to the shorter battery life after the XL's but ... well, guess I'll just have to get a couple more shorties, eh? :) I'll have to keep my regular manual, though, for refills as I do NOT trust my refill capabilities at all and do not want to toast an auto batt because of my lousy refilling techniques. Interestingly enough, I have found that the condom fill works fabulous with the prem carts but, try as I might, I cannot get it to work with the reg cartos without getting juice in my mouth. Go figure. Oh well, one day I will be through all this juice and then ... hmm ... think I'll just stick with prefills after that. Still way cheaper than cigs and such a joy to vape!

It's very nice to see other shorty fans in here, normally a thread like this devolves into a "nothing beats my manual XL" forum. I'll have to check out those cases that were mentioned for shorty carrying.

Right now, I carry four shorties at a time in a little velcrow flip top pocket knife sleeve. It fits in my pocket like a wallet. If I was more into the utiltiy belt look I just wear it on my belt like a cell phone. The big thing I need now is a wall charger for multiple batteries that can charge four batteries or more at a time with only one outlet.

You know, one other thing I recently found that works great for me and goes along nicely with the whole portability factor of the shorties, there are these little 3ml dropper bottles you can buy (best deal I found was at Vermont Vapors). They are really small, not as small as a carto, but you can put them in a PCC slot (carrying case, not charging case) and still close the PCC. So in once PCC I can fit juice, an extra carto, and two batteries.

I don't let robots or sensors do anything for me. Haven't you ever seen Terminator!

Next thing I know that shorty would be trying to take over the world o_O

There has to be a human in the loop...

You suck!

I mean it, you have to suck.

That is the the user interaction required for the shorty to activate.
